Reveals how people from the Wright brothers to Mary Kay Ash, Arnold Palmer, and Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore developed the ability to take risks, learn from their mistakes, and profit from their failures.

Publishers Description

Are some people born to achieve anything they want while others struggle? Call them lucky, blessed, or possessors of the Midas touch. What is the real reason for their success? Is it family background, wealth, greater opportunities, high morals, an easy childhood?

"New York Times" best-selling author John C. Maxwell has the answer: The difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of and response to failure.

Most people are never prepared to deal with failure. Maxwell says that if you are like him, coming out of school, you feared it, misunderstood it, and ran away from it. But Maxwell has learned to make failure his friend, and he can teach you to do the same.

"I want to help you learn how to confidently look the prospect of failure in the eye and move forward anyway," says Maxwell. "Because in life, the question is not "if" you will have problems, but how you are going to deal with them. Stop failing backward and start "failing forward" "

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Always inspiring to learn how to pick yourself off the mat  May 21, 2010
I'm becoming a fan of John Maxwell and this didn't let me down. I wouldn't say it's his best book but for it's focus on bouncing back after setbacks, it does a very good job. So many great examples and quotes from people who have overcome adversity and you can't help but get fired up about increasing your own persistence. I do believe you can measure a person's greatness by what they had to overcome to get where they are at in life. Another fine book from Maxwell and well worth your time to let his ideas sink into your mind.
Failing Forward  Apr 22, 2010
I recently had a business failure and was really struggling with it. The book along with other things has helped me to accept the setback as a step forward and not a failure. Highly recommended.
Making Failure Work for You  Apr 16, 2010
This is quite simply the best book of its kind that I have ever read. Maxwell outshines many self-help authors by means of convincingly going beyond mere platitudes about "looking for the silver lining" and showing with clear arguments and examples how changing one's attitude toward failure can make all the difference in life. Maxwell stresses that success nearly always comes after some type of failure, and that one should embrace failure and the lessons it teaches. The numerous examples Maxwell provides of people who suffered setbacks before coming into prominence (and in many cases people who BECAUSE they suffered setbacks came into prominence) are abundant confidence boosters to those of us who have experienced hardships. Maxwell's book has helped me to see my failures as precursors to the growth and success that I experienced afterward. If you are down in life and thinking about throwing in the towel on your hopes and dreams, pick up this book and read it. It can do for you what it did for me.
Only book you will ever need!  Mar 18, 2010
Being a good Irish Catholic, this book suits the Irish mentality: "It'll never work here", "Don't get above your station!". Generations of domination by a foreign empire, followed by a dominent church, the idea of submission and failure is ingrained in the psyche.

This book is instrumental in changing what you can, your attitude, no longer is control of failure, or perception of failure out there, but you control how you feel, what failure is and you use difficulties to define you! We are going through the greatest realiity check in a hundred years, let's hope that the new reality is different, this book will help you be the difference you want to see in the world!

In my business, 90% failure is not a problem, still worth a good mortgage payment every month, so I encourage failing forward as a philosophy!
