Overview
In his book, James Danaher successfully shows that a post-modern perspective, which questions the cultural, historical, and linguistic presuppositions involved in interpreting the Gospels, frees us to hear anew the culturally subversive, yet ultimately transformative message of Jesus' Good News. The author carefully uses postmodern insights to illustrate that what we see in the Gospels is largely a product of how we see, and how we see comes from our social constructs, not what we interpret to be God's objective revelation. Intended for Christians who are looking to understand Jesus in light of a postmodern perspective, as well as unchurched people who are interested in Jesus but having difficulty with the way the Gospel is culturally interpreted.

"Seldom have I read such a combination of stellar intelligence, simple clarity, and a 'heart' understanding of Jesus and the Gospels. This book could resolve many people's faith questions and concerns. Jim Danaher talks with humility, honestly, and orthodoxy at the same time-which is rare today."--Richard Rohr
"This type of text I would use in my Christology or Post-Modern classes. It's accessible for the college undergraduate while remaining critical and engaging."--Jay Hammond

Reviews - What do our customers think?
highly recommended  Feb 1, 2008
I would highly recommed this book, particularly to people interested in philosophy and all Christians. The ideas discussed by Dr. Danaher cover topics Christians should be discussing, and the position of humility which he advocates will allow any spiritual seeker, regardless of religious affiliation, to grow and to better understand God. Furthermore, this transition from modern to postmodern thought in the Church is creating a great deal of debate and confusion. Dr. Danaher's work may serve to facilitate this ongoing discussion, to challenge the thinking of some who see postmodernism as moral relativism, and to unite the Church through a shared willingness to be corrected. Indeed, he shows us that one can approach Scripture with the humilty and curiosity of the Socratic method without sacrificing orthodoxy.

Rare Find  Mar 12, 2007
I had never heard of James Danaher prior to reading this book. I ordered the book because I was intrigued by the title. Danaher has the rare ability to write about complex issues in a clear, direct, and concise manner. He says no more than he has to, but he says all that needs to be said. Danaher blends philosophy, theology, biblical exegesis, and traditional Christian spirituality with uncommon ease. Many of my PoMo colleagues have little use for Christianity. Many of my Christian friends see postmodernism as code for all that is unholy. I think both groups would enjoy and benefit from reading Dr Danaher's work.

Danaher-Eyes That See, Ears That Hear  Nov 24, 2006
Danaher's approach is strictly academic. It is not what I had expected.

Two Thumbs Up  Nov 11, 2006
This book is an excellent example of what a philosophy book should be: meaningful and readable. Expect to be changed. I am a student of the author and can say that he is a very wise yet humble man. Socrates would be proud.

The man himself is great!  Feb 18, 2006
Everyone who has had Professor Danaher's classes at college has hung on every word that comes out of his mouth from humor to wide extent of knowledge that captivates us. Any book that he writes promises to captivate as much as class does.
