Item Description...
Jesus said in John 12:32, "I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." I believe that He will do exactly what He said He will do. He won't just draw a select few as Calvinists teach. He won't try to draw all men and fail as the Arminians teach. He will draw all people all the way to Himself. In Revelation 5:13, John writes, "And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, 'To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!'" After those who died without a right relationship with God have undergone whatever punishment God deems proper, "Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father!"

Cavalier Contempt for Theology, Exegesis and the English Language  Apr 2, 2008
The first glaring fault any reader unfortunate enough to read `Every Knee Shall Bow' will notice is Thomas Allin's refusal to recognise the basic laws regarding English and the proper use of grammar. As a result, the chance of any literate individual having the patience to finish this appalling tract is slim.

I do not label this piece of gutter-writing a `tract' for no reason. For a supposedly scholarly piece of argumentation in favour of a seriously consequential theological theory, the absence of any significant theological sources is abysmally noticeable. Any recourse to Church Fathers is kept to a minimum, and those that are quoted have their original meaning distorted to such an extent as to enable legitimate concerns on the pathological state of the author. As noted by another reviewer, none of these quotations are referenced, enabling only the theologically competent to spot the deceitfulness inherent within this book.

Of course, it is likely that the primary readership this is aimed at is of a Protestant nature, removing the significance of any quoted Church Father. Thus, the fundamentals of the presented Universalism are drawn from the Scripture. Protestants shouldn't raise their hopes; his treatment of Scripture is just as erroneous. A handful of sporadic verses are presented as `proof-texts', with enough eisegesis as to make the most experienced spin-doctor blush. Amazingly, these same few verses are spread thickly through 124 pages, together with the same emotive, philosophically-defunct arguments repeated ad nauseum. His treatment of Hell is reduced to that of the infantile, pleading that a loving God would not punish humanity, with each description of the pains of Hell accompanied by five or six exclamation marks.

I am not a Universalist; I believe it to be a dangerous and wicked heresy. But there is nothing within the pages of this book to make any fence-sitter, no matter how 'open-minded', remotely consider the plausibility of Universalism. All that is presented, in a barely-readable manner, is sentimentally-charged platitudes and horrific pseduo-scholarship.
Every Knee Shall Bow  Mar 25, 2007
What a great book!! Mark Chamberlain presents a picture of the Love of God in which we should all rejoice. If God claims to be All Loving, All Knowing, All Powerful - than we can only conclude that anything that He does, such as creating man, is no less than Perfect and crowned with Love. I have believed in Universal Reconciliation for over 32 years now, due to study on my own, and I am thrilled to see such books being written.

There was a comment in an earlier review stating he did not give references for the quotes of the early church fathers. I really did not pay much attention to that. But I will be happy to refer you to a scholarly work that was written in 1899 that does gives all the references. The work is by J.W. Hanson "Universalism, the prevailing doctrine of the Christian Church during its first five hundred years". I copied this work off the internet, I think maybe on the tentmakers website. But if you put the title in a search window you will find it.

Another great book that I ordered off this site was the "The Golden Thread" by Ken Vincent. If you liked Every Knee Shall Bow, you will like this as well.
This book is a case of Eternal Torment  Dec 27, 2006
This is what I get for not paying attention to the publisher of a book. Save your money. The book is filled with fallacies from cover to cover. This is not a scholarly work. If you are looking for a scholarly discussion of Universalism this is certainly not it.

For example, the author cites various quotations from early church writers but provides no references, so there is no way to check the text and context of the citation.

The author plays instant Greek scholar by citing a concordance, rather than standard lexigraphical works. This book is horrible.
Universalist Update  Oct 18, 2005
When I read that Mark Chamberlain had revised a 19th Century book on Universalism by Thomas Allin, I was a bit skeptical. My skepticism was baseless, because EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW, THE CASE FOR CHRISTIAN UNIVERSALISM is a seamless blend of two authors across the centuries.

As with virtually all books on Christian Universalism, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW has a hardy number of Bible quotations which have been used as proof text for Universalism since the earliest days of Christianity. The authors state that eventual salvation for all was the dominant position of Christianity during its first five centuries. Chamberlain and Allin maintain that the faulty theology of Eternal Hell is primarily due to mistranslations and misunderstanding of New Testament Greek. Their chapter on this subject is one of the best explanations I've ever read and, interestingly, one of the most succinct.

This book is a "must-read" for all Universalists and, more importantly, for all those who have had problems with exclusivist and vengeful theologies. EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW is about the loving God of Jesus who wills that none should be lost (Matt 18:14), none should perish (II Pet 3:9), and that all should be saved (I Tim 2:3-6).
