More About Arthur W. Pink

Arthur W. Pink Arthur Walkington Pink was born in Nottingham, England on 1 April 1886 and became a Christian in 1908, at the age of 22. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (the occult gnostic group which became precursor of the New Age movement, popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death,' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.

Desiring to grow in knowledge of the Bible, Pink emigrated to the United States to study at Moody Bible Institute. He left there after only two months and began his first pastorate in Silverton, Colorado. In 1916 he married Vera E. Russell (8 January 1893 – 17 July 1962), who was from Kentucky. However, he left after just two months for Colorado, then California, then Britain. From 1925 to 1928 he served in Australia, including as pastor of two congregations from 1926 to 1928, when he returned to England, and to the United States the following year. He eventually pastored churches in Colorado, California, Kentucky, and South Carolina.

In January 1922 he started a monthly magazine entitled Studies in the Scriptures. Its relatively small circulation list of around 1,000 included English-speaking Christians worldwide and became the basis of most of his published books.

In 1934 Pink returned to England, and within a few years turned his Christian service to writing books and pamphlets. Moving to the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, in 1940, Pink died of anemia in Stornoway, Scotland on 15 July 1952.

After Pink's death, his works were republished by a number of publishing houses, among them, Banner of Truth Trust, Baker Book House, Christian Focus Publications, Moody Press, Truth for Today, and reached a much wider audience as a result. Biographer Iain Murray observes of Pink, "the widespread circulation of his writings after his death made him one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century." His writing sparked a revival of expository preaching and focused readers' hearts on biblical living. Pink is left out of many biographical dictionaries and overlooked in many religious histories.

Arthur W. Pink was born in 1886 and died in 1952.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
total heresy!  Jan 30, 2008
If you like satan to teach you lies, read this book, for surely it was inspired by satan! This teaching originated with the Gnostics in the first century, and all the true early church Bishops called them heretics and this teaching heresy. It is such a tool of the devil to send multitudes of lukewarm Christians to hell, thinking they are eternally secure, when they are not even living the life God has called us to,which is hebrews 12:14. I used to read all of Pinks books until God woke me up a few years ago.

Total heresy, readers don't read this devil inspired theology!
Thorough Treatment of the Subject  Dec 28, 2003
This book does a thorough job of affirming the doctrine of the "perseverance of the saints". It also warns the professing Christian who sins to repent, for true saints keep to the way of righteousness.

"[Hymenaeus and Philetus] Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

-- 2 Timothy 2:18-19

Beware of Mr. Pink!  Oct 25, 2002
Pink twists and turns his way through the scriptures to come up with another heretical explanation why you can sin your way into the kingdom. Although he refrains from the modern version of this awful doctrine that goes as far to say that you can deny Christ and He won't deny you, the end result remains the same. Attempting to protect the Sovereignty of God these men have sacrificed the responsibility of man to `continue' in the faith. Therefore such simplistic passages as "By this Gospel you are saved, IF you hold fast to the end" (1Cor15:2) are twisted to say, `Because you are saved you will hold fast to the end!' But such is the nature of this horrendous teaching that is leading millions into the eternal fires of hell.
Like many of his contemporaries, Pink raises the `Never saved to begin with' argument, hoping to cloud of issue of `patient continuance in doing good' (Rom2:7) He explains away the Heb6:1-6 passages in similar manner, saying that `Partakers' of the Holy Spirit really means they were merely under the `influence' of the Spirit. Although the SAME word is used elsewhere in Scripture to explain how we are `Partakers' of Christ, IF we hold fast our confidence steadfast to the end. (Heb3:14) This is just one of numerous examples how the simple text of the Bible are twisted to support false doctrine.
Therefore anyone who falls into heinous sin was `never' saved to begin with! (although this is NOT the prevalent view among today's Calvinist) This would include Judas of course, the man in 1Cor5:5, the false teachers who `shipwrecked' their faith and the faith of others in 1Tim1:19-20, 2Tim2:17-18, Demas, 2Tim4:9, the new converts in 2Pet2:18 who had `escaped indeed', and anyone else who `departed' from the faith or fell into the error of the wicked.
The difficulty with this argument stems from the fact that it isn't biblical. Paul never suggested these people were `never' saved to begin with because they sinned. He merely states in numerous passages that such behavior will keep you OUT of the kingdom. That a genuine Christian is incapable of these acts is also off base. Why would the devil try so hard to temp us into sin & error IF our souls were not at stake? If all we stand to lose is our `rewards' & fellowship, what's the point of a roaring lion? And the struggle against sin stated throughout scripture, Heb12:4, why resist or flee temptation and Strive to keep ourselves Pure, if it doesn't matter? Thus you see the outcome of such preaching. Dead, lukewarm & complacent professing Christians, `believing' themselves saved while remaining in bondage to sin.
Pink is devious in his approach to this subject. You will get the impression reading his books that he believed whole heatedly in holiness & obedience to the faith. But on a closer examination you find the `under-laying' message of John Calvin lurking in the pages of this manuscript. Unknowingly he has planted the seeds of our present day apostasy. By promoting the doctrine of `unconditional' eternal security he has helped lay the foundation for men like Charles Stanley & Billy Graham who soft peddle the message of salvation to millions of lost souls, convincing them that a one time confession of faith will guarantee their entrance into the eternal kingdom!
I recommend you be steadfastly grounded in the faith before you read ANY of Pink's books. He is VERY persuasive in his narrative and has convinced many that the heretical views of John Calvin are biblical. Beware of his subtle twists & turns for they will lead you down the path of destruction if you are not careful.
Perseverance Rediscovered  Jun 7, 2000
Arthur Pink's work on Eternal Security is like a double-edged sword swung against the unbiblical errors of both the Wesleyan notion that one can lose his salvation and the modern "carnal Christian" doctrine that supposes one can have salvation without sanctification. Pink's essays (originally published under the title "The Saints Perseverance" in Pink's magazine "Studies in the Scriptures") deals with the doctrinal foundations of the saints security, provides helpful safeguards against extremes and abuses relating to assurance, and gives practical direction on how to "persevere". It is a thoroughly Calvinistic treatment of the subject. While the chapters are uneven in their literary quality, the content is worth reading. This book is a helpful antidote to the sickly condition of modern Christian teaching on eternal security.
