Item Description...
Since the release of her self-titled debut album, seventeen year-old Krystal Meyers has garnered a Dove Award nomination for New Artist of the Year, had three Top 10 singles and performed before more than 400,000 people. Additionally, Meyers has graduated high school, performed as part of the Winter Jam Tour, presented at the GMA Awards, been to Japan twice, and completed her second record.

On her sophomore release, Krystal grapples with issues faced daily by her peers. The ambitious project continues Meyers' message of ?Anticonformity,? encouraging young people to stand up for God?s plan for their life. Tracks like ?The Situation? delve into the struggle for purity in relationships, while ?The Beauty of Grace? reminds that there is forgiveness for all. Krystal explains the message further, ?There are a few songs that are controversial, dealing with real issues facing young people today. I wanted to write those songs to challenge the youth of my generation.?

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Refreshingly good!  Mar 29, 2007
It was inevitable that people would compare Krystal Meyers to Avril Lavigne, but honestly after listening to this cd (and listening and listening...) I have to say that Krystal is in a whole different leauge than Avril. She is exceptional on this 2nd album. I also reccomend checking out the video for "Beauty of Grace" its the best music video I've seen so far in 07 (in ANY genre!) Way to go Krystal!
Solid sophomore release  Mar 18, 2007
When making a sophomore album, an artist has two basic choices: Try a new direction and risk losing the audience built up by the debut, or keep the same basic sound and risk making the follow-up album sound like merely a repeat of the first one. Either way, the goal is to avoid getting the album labeled "sophomore slump."

Krystal Meyers has chosen the latter route on her second album, sticking with pretty much the same sound she had on her first album. There are some minor differences - the rhythm guitars are heavier, bringing more power to the album, but the melodies are more pop, offsetting the heavier guitars, with the end result being something similar to her debut but at least not sounding completely identical to it.

There are some weaknesses on this album not found on her first, though. The melodies on most songs on this album seem less catchy and memorable than those on her first album (despite the more pop sound of this one), and the lyrics are not nearly as compelling, at least to me. It's a great energetic album, another solid, excellent production from Krystal Meyers, an album that I listen to frequently and I do enjoy, but doesn't quite measure up to her debut.

The album begins with a powerful opener that does have a memorable melody, though a bit too pop, and a vertical focus: "Collide: Crash into me--I want to be broken by You and made brand new." The second song has my favorite lyrics on the album, words along the theme of such books as "Waking The Dead" by John Eldredge, "Don't Waste Your Life" by John Piper, or "The Barbarian Way: Unleash The Untamed Faith Within" by Erwin Raphael McManus: "It's time I start to LIVE, unafraid of tomorrow, knowing You're in control--life wasn't meant to waste away." I also like the words in "The Beauty Of Grace" and "Hallelujah," whose subjects you can surmise from the titles.

What brings the album down are some of the other songs' lyrics. "Only You Make Me Happy" and "Together" have some awkward lines--"Elvis is dead, but my King is alive" from the former, and "Loneliness is our disease, still we bite the hand that feeds" from the latter. I haven't yet quite figured out the exact meanings of "Love Is On The Run," "Stand And Scream" or "Shake It Off." And I find one of the points in "The Situation" to be rather offensive. This song deals with the sexual temptations single people face--particularly young people judging by the context of these lyrics, though not exclusively--first dealing from a girl's standpoint, then from a boy's standpoint. What bugs me about her stance on the boy is that she makes it sound like the only reason young guys push the limits physically with girls is to "be a man," a trophy kind of thing, not recognizing that a boy is probably more likely to be truly fond of the girl but is just thinking with the wrong head.

While these complaints of mine make this album not as appealing as her debut, this is still an excellent album that I would highly recommend. Her first album would be 4.9 stars in my book, while this one would be about 4.1 stars...still excellent, just slightly less so. The energy is still there, and there are some moments of beauty that surpass anything on the debut. "The Beauty Of Grace" is a power pop ballad that immediately screams "I'm a radio hit!" It's as perfect in the pop-rock world as Stacie Orrico's "I Promise" or "That's What Love's About" are in the dance-pop world. This album ends with a beautiful, melodic song, "Hallelujah," that like "The Beauty Of Grace," is a spine-tingler.

So, while there are some disappointing moments on this album, there is plenty to please, and enough solid material that I expect Krystal Meyers will continue to turn out albums definitely worth having.
A Clear Heart For Outreach, But Is There A Fear Of Jesus Name?  Mar 5, 2007
I had an interesting dialog with Michael Tikasingh, a fellow this site reviewer, concerning Kristy Starling's project. I thought it had some great lyrics, but he pointed out that she rarely mentioned God or Jesus by name. He had a good point, and that helped me pay more attention to this project.

One thing I notice is that a lot of songs are sung to Jesus/God, which is the case in this project. That way, one can tell when they read the lyrics that God is being addressed, because the pronouns (second person) are capitalized. The one drawback is when those lyrics are sung, I have a hard time figuring out which words are capitalized. This leaves a feeling of vagueness, which I do not consider a good quality.

Krystal Meyers wrote most of her songs, and I believe she wants to make an impact. She would make more of an impact if she referred to Jesus by name. True, this may offend some people, but if you are preaching the gospel clearly, you will offend some people.

There were some good track, which included "Live", "The Beauty Of Grace", "Love Is On The Run", and "Stand And Scream."
I love her!  Feb 21, 2007
She is a terrific, magnificent, marvellous, wonderful, beautiful, good, great, absolutely stunning, and amazing singer! This CD is better than her first CD, and I love most of the songs! They're amazing, just like she is! I would definetely buy this CD if I were you! She rocks! I especially love "The Beauty of Grace"! Buy this CD!
I love this CD!  Feb 13, 2007
Krystal Meyers is just a wonderful Christian singer. She sings rock songs, with great lyrics, and my favorites are "The Beauty of Grace", "Shake It Off", "The Situation", and "Live"! I'd buy this CD, because the girl can sing!
