Overview
The thrilling conclusion to a popular fantasy series! After years of warfare, the Amarans' faith is rekindled as peace and prosperity return. But evil lurks beneath the idyllic land! While seeking a hidden meech dragon colony, Kale and Bardon encounter insidious forces threatening to destroy all they love. Truth was never so important---nor so elusive! 368 pages, softcover from Waterbrook.

Publishers Description
The fantastic land of Amara is recovering from years of war inflicted on its citizens by outside forces-as well as from the spiritual apathy corroding the Amarans' hearts. With Kale and her father serving as dragon keepers for Paladin, the dragon populace has exploded. It's a peaceful, exciting time of rebuilding. And yet, an insidious, unseen evil lurks just beneath the surface of the idyllic countryside.
Truth has never been more important, nor so difficult to discern.
As Kale and her father are busy hatching, bonding, and releasing the younger generation of dragons as helpers throughout the kingdom, the light wizard has little time to develop her skills. Her husband, Sir Bardon-despite physical limitations resulting from his bout with the stakes disease-has become a leader, serving on the governing board under Paladin. When Kale and Bardon set aside their daily responsibilities to join meech dragons Regidor and Gilda on a quest to find a hidden meech colony, they encounter sinister forces. Their world is under attack by a secret enemy... can they overcome the ominous peril they can't even see?
Prepare to experience breathtaking adventure and mind-blowing fantasy as never before in this dazzling, beautifully-crafted conclusion to Donita K. Paul's popular DragonKeeper Chronicles fantasy series.

Fantastic Allegory  Apr 26, 2009
Dragon Keeper Kale and her husband, Bardon, head off on a quest to help their meech dragon friends Gilda and Reginor get to a legendary meech colony in the north where Gilda can present her egg. It's a cool quest. But there's bad stuff going on in their land. People calling themselves "Followers" are spreading a message contrary to Paladin's teachings. They think wizards like Kale and their dragons are to be destroyed. Between these con-artist-like Followers and clouds of dart-like, poisonous little black dragons, evil is closing in on Kale, Bardon, Gilda, Reginor, and the good people who work to help them.

Packed with cute dragons doing cute dragon things and clever characters uncovering evildoers' plans, this story brings an old legend in the DragonKeeper Chronicles world to life and offers new visions as a compelling allegory for Christ's sacrifice. I was impressed with the climax to the story and know others will be, too. Even if you don't catch (or believe) the Salvation story, DragonLight offers a great story of friendship, loyalty, sacrifice, and the triumph of good over evil.

I highly recommend DragonLight as a wonderful fantasy novel for young adults and adults alike. It isn't necessary to read the entire series to follow the action in this self-contained story, but with all the dragony goodness, why wouldn't you?

Dragonlicious!  Jan 19, 2009
Some of you have probably heard of the Dragon Keeper Chronicles Series by Donita Paul. It is an amazing series that currently has 5 books in it - DragonSpell DragonQuest DragonKnight DragonFire DragonLight We enter the world of Amara with Knights, Wizards, Dragons and of course clear lines drawn between good and evil. Donita has created many kinds of creatures and other amazing characters that take us through many adventures. One of my favorite parts is definitely the dragons themselves. There are different kinds with different gifts usually based on what color they are. They each have different personalities and are quite captivating really. This is a world that will pull you in and have you begging for more. I was a little behind the times with this series - I came in on book #5 (DragonLight) but was able to get the first one and read it before reading DragonLight. I loved them both and have since gotten the middle three and can't wait to go back to Amara and follow those journeys! This is a series written for YA but designed for anyone that likes fantasy and using their imaginations...

Dragon Keepers - a great author, a great series.  Jan 18, 2009
My pre-teens and teens run through books like crazy. I have trouble keeping up, and keeping their literary appetites satiated. Frankly, I created these monsters, and now sometimes I am at a loss what to do with them. I am so thrilled to have found the Dragon Keepers series, and to be able to recommend it to other parents.
As far a science fiction/fantasy genre goes, this is a terrific read. The characters are engaging and three dimensional, the plot is full of fore-shadowing, yet you just aren't sure what is next. Her "take" on dragon lore is fresh, yet genre fans will feel comfortable with her interpretation.
Yet, as a parent, I have worried about some books & series in this sci fi/fantasy genre. They tend to be dark. Not so with Dragon Keepers. In fact, they are hope-filled (without being preachy or corny) and - while dramatic and suspenseful - not in any way graphic or troublesome for my high-level pre-teen readers. The five Dragon Keeper novels have the honor at my home of being equally treasured by all my "kids" - from 10 to 20 years old.

Good Series  Nov 23, 2008
When I first picked up Dragonspell I fell in love. The first three books I thought were great, I fell in love with just about all the characters and considered it a great unique read. Kale was by far the most believable character and I loved Paladin and all of their adventures.

However, I'm probably the only one but I felt the series lacked from Dragonfire to Dragonlight. I was kind of disappointed. I felt some of the characters lost substance and I felt the writing was a little choppy in the fourth one.

But Dragonlight I felt was better than the fourth novel. I felt it was more romantic between Bardon and Kale and I was happy with it overall. Bardon annoyed me in this book a lot. He comes of too preachy and I kept saying "shut up Bardon" in my head. Kale again I felt was wonderful. She never lost her spunky personality and I felt she was always the one messing up and Bardon was too perfect and I felt a "that's it?" feeling at the end of Dragonlight.

I really rate it 3.5. I thought it was very solid and very spiritual and very clean (of course it targeted a younger audience). But wish there was more of a real feeling when I read it. I'm not trying to down the series but I felt it lacking toward the end that's all. *dodges thrown objects* Other than that I did enjoy it for it being very wholesome :-). I will definitely read other books by Donita K. Paul!

A great finish!  Oct 13, 2008
Ah, the end of the series, a bitter sweet feeling indeed. Join Kale and Bardon again as they journey with Regidor and Gilda to find the lost Meech community, and to save Amara from a new order that seem to contradict everything Wulder and Paladin stand for.
