Item Description...
The evangelical presidential candidate traces the course of his grassroots campaign, explains how he garnered support by respecting the concerns of middle-class and working-class voters, and demonstrates how his example can be drawn on by conservatives to unify the Republican Party.

Publishers Description
When Governor Mike Huckabee entered the Republican presidential race, he was the ultimate dark horse, with almost no money, no consultants, and no name recognition beyond Arkansas. The so-called experts were highly amused by this former small state governor from blue-collar roots who also played bass in a rock band. He wouldnt have a prayer against the well-connected and financially wired pros like Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson.

But Huckabee had one big advantage: a common sense message that connected with millions of people, and not just his fellow evangelical Christians. He spoke about family values, fair taxes, and helping hard-working, middle-class Americans in a tough economy. And to the dismay of some Republicans, he talked about fighting Wall Street greed and K Street corruption.

Huckabee shocked the country by winning the all-important Iowa caucuses and seven other states, while spending far less than the other major candidates. He created an army of passionate volunteers and small donors, transforming his campaign into a true movement that will endure long after Election Day.

Do The Right Thing is Huckabees amazing story, in his own wordsfrom making commercials with Chuck Norris to meeting a Michigan woman who insisted on donating her wedding ring. But this is more than just a campaign memoir. Its a vision for a smarter, fairer type of politicsvertical politicsthat focuses on common sense solutions for education, health care, the economy, and many other issues. Its not about right versus left; its about taking America up rather than down.
Huckabee also shows how the Republican Party can heal its divisionsbetween social and fiscal conservatives, the wealthy and the middle class, the religious and the secularand become a true majority party again.

Do the Right Thing  Dec 16, 2008
Another great book by Governor Huckabee. I've read all of his books and this book is hard to put down especially if you followed the primaries. There was a lot of information that he provided and help the reader better understand the political process. I highly recommend this book for everyone who want Governor Huckabee to run in 2012.
An honest, from the heart book...  Dec 13, 2008
Mike Huckabee is no idiot. He is not a Gomer, though he has been characterized as such by the mainstream media. He ran an inspirational campaign of which I was a supporter, both financially and spiritually.
He is a great conservative leader, and a wonderfully nice man who I have met in person. I am so happy he is staying in the limelight of politics.

This book is not his best work. It seems hurried, somewhat disjointed and has a lot of editorial mistakes, which puts any reader off. I skipped around to the interesting campaign stories (the first chapter of the play-by-play during the Iowa caucus is riveting!). I was hoping for more stories from the campaign, and maybe more of the profound reflections that I've enjoyed in snippets on TV.

He has a great way of illustrating analogies in his writing, and can turn the most mundane occurrences into symbols of life lessons, which makes for the great story telling of his previous books. (His poor son - the story of the cake with too much salt - used again, this time with a slightly different theoretical summary so it wasn't a complete repeat.)

Still, if you're a fan of Huckabee and a true blue conservative, or you know and love one, you should get the book. It's a valuable read. Just set your expectations a little lower than the previous book for the flow and entertainment value.

I'm still a supporter and hope and yes, pray, for the us all to "do the right thing."
Wow....  Dec 12, 2008
I really loved this book. The things Mike believes in like the Fair Tax ( and his approach to government. It is all, well "common sense", something we are dreadfully missing in American politics!

We need to listen to this guy, he has a bright future.
Worthless drivel!  Dec 12, 2008
There is not a unique idea in this book. No vision for the future. The campaign he ran was as divisive or more so than all the rest and he wastes time justifying it, to an extent, in the book. He pokes fun at things in the book that he made serious issues of in the campaign. Am I now supposed to think he really didn't mean what he said?
I relish the day that we have a candidate with true American ideals and values, but it is not Mr. Huckabee. If you want my respect as a candidate running for office run on your positions, your actions and your ideas instead of smearing the other candidates and obfuscating the issues real Americans take to heart. Evangelical christians seem to view Mr. Huckabee as there voice in politics and if that is truly the case then I have to wonder what they really stand for. There is nothing new here, simply an attempt by Mr. Huckabee to refill his campaign war chest.
Don't Waste Your Money  Dec 10, 2008
This was probably the worst book I ever read. If you want to waste money reading this "out of touch" idiot's personal beliefs, then you either have too much money or too much time!!
