Item Description...
Mary Madison is a wealthy, powerful woman of faith who is known on the political landscape of Washington, D.C., and who often testifies before various committees on behalf of abused and battered women. Her faith and her story make her respected by people of all political views and beliefs. In her younger days, Mary is victimized in a way that becomes very public. She is held hostage to unspeakable horrors, and headed for certain death when she finds a love that knows no bounds. This great love seeks her, pursues her, and eventually rescues her. It is a love that is tangible, life-changing, and divine. This great love has now become the driving force in Mary's life. It causes her to devote her future and her fortune to helping abused women find this same love, and in the process to be redeemed. In this modern-day parable of Mary Magdalene, Karen Kingsbury uses gut-wrenching emotion to show how only a divine love can rescue us from the depths of depravity and victimization, and the redeeming transformation that is possible when we finally...finally embrace that love.

Publishers Description
Mary Madison was a child of unspeakable horrors, a young woman society wanted to forget. Now a divine power has set Mary free to bring life-changing hope and love to battered and abused women living in the shadow of the nation s capital. Mary is educated and redeemed, a powerful voice in Washington, D.C. - both to the politically elite and to other women like her. But she also has a past that shamed polite society. Her experiences created in her paralyzing fear, faithlessness, addiction, and promiscuity. At the crossroads of her life, only one power set Mary free and gave her a lifetime of love and hope. A power that could only be divine. Peggy Madison is Mary s grandmother, a quiet woman who has spent her life praying for her granddaughter. Peggy clings to the belief that God has a special plan for Mary. Through years of sorrow and longing, Peggy walks the journey in faith and watches from a distance as one key person after another comes into Mary s life and demonstrates the timeless, powerful love of the Master, the Savior. The divine Lord. Emma Randall is a single mother fleeing an abusive relationship, wondering whether there is hope for her and her young daughters. She is desperate, broken, and unloved, tempted to commit the unthinkable. Then Mary Madison introduces Emma to the greatest love of all, greater than any either of them has ever imagined."

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Divine  Jan 11, 2007
I very much enjoyed this book. I read it in 2 days. It gives you a look into the current day drug/sex world. The story tells how God brought one lady out of that terrible world and used her for good.
True to Life  Jan 11, 2007
DIVINE is for mature readers. Karen deals with difficult subject matter very truthfully but tactfully. Thousands of women today live in this web of despair and pain. Her format is completely unique to her other writing but effectively communicates her message of hope and reconciliation. As usual, I couldn't put it down!
Deep, Dark, Tragic  Dec 20, 2006
By: Jeffrey W. Bennett, author of Under the Lontar Palm.

If you are looking for uplifting fiction, don't bother reading this book, or just skip to the end. If you are looking for characters overcoming tragic situations ripped out of the headlines, this book is for you.

Mary Madison is a daughter of a prostitute. She is kidnapped and put into sexual slavery at 10 years old. All she has to remind her of a "normal" life is a little purse and scriptual reminder that God has plans for her; a gift from her grandmother.

The story follows her through the years where she is finally rescued by police. All she knows how to do from this experience is cope, survive and manipulate.

God puts Christians in her path to demonstrate His love and faithfulness. The little purse links her experiences with the hope that one day she will be rescued and reunited with her grandmother.

It's not until she receives Jesus that she is really rescued. Under His power does she have a future and is able to demonstrate His love to other abused women.

Though well written, this book is hard to read. Because of its dark, tragic, and sad content, I recommend it for mature readers.
Divine  Nov 4, 2006
Love this book. It will make you think, break your heart, and in the end warm your soul. It may even get you envolved.
Not My Cup of Tea  Oct 25, 2006
I have read and really enjoyed all of Karen's books....until now. I don't know if I should review it since I didn't get past chapter four or five. It was so depressing, so graphic, so horrible, I couldn't continue to read it and I stopped. I realize it's a 'reality' type novel, but way too real for me. I read Christian novels to be encouraged and uplifted. I could find the stuff in this book [at least the part I read] on the news any night of the week, which is why I rarely watch the news anymore. I was very disappointed. I think I'll stick with Christian romance from other authors.
