Item Description...
Hutch's survival skills and ingenuity saved him once in the deep woods. Can they save him this time in the city?

John Hutchinson thinks it's no coincidence that Brendan Page runs this modern Praetorian Guard, and that the billionaire military industrialist must have had something to do with the atrocities his son Declan committed in Canada. The Canadian and U.S. Justice departments disagree, but Hutch has been digging for dirt ever since.

When Hutch discovers the secret of Page's success, Page decides to teach him a lesson. But the operation goes terribly wrong, and Hutch's son is kidnapped. While a lone man stands little chance against the best black op soldiers ever issued M-16s, Hutch manages to survive longer than Page anticipated.

As far as Hutch is concerned, high-tech helmets, machine guns, and hand grenades are nothing compared to a man determined to save his son. It's a lesson he sets out to teach Page-and one that he can only hope works as well in the real world as it does in his heart.

Publishers Description

AHutch is a newspaper columnist, single dad . . . and last defense against a lunatic's high-tech killing machine.

Special Forces veteran-turned-billionaire Brendan Page has some dirty not-so-little secrets. He's built an empire on supplying futuristic weapons and highly trained soldiers to the world's most powerful armies.

But he's saved his most destructive weapons for himself.

John Hutchinson, a Denver newspaper columnist and avid bow-hunter, has figured out the truth about Brendan Page and is determined to bring him down. But he's up against a warmonger linked to assasinations, kidnappings, and terrorist activities.

Hutch quickly uncovers a plan that seems unfathomable in its recklessness and loss of life. Yet he's just one man up against impossible odds--with no Plan B. Thankfully, it's just the kind of environment Hutch thrives best in . . . if he can survive the next three days.

Deadlock will grab you from the riveting first page to its white-knuckle climax.

"With a blistering pace and irresistable characters, Deadlock is the best of high-octane suspense."

- Gayle Lynds, New York Times best-selling author of The Last Spymaster

Enjoyable Sequel To Deadfall  Mar 1, 2010
Once again Robert Liparulo creates a wild ride that keeps you from your needed sleep. "Deadlock" is a lot of fun but very serious in it's portrayal of evil. The writing was good and straight-forward, the characters were an excellent continuation from "Deadfall". Read it in just three days which is very quick for me since I'm so busy. I loved the battle of brains and technology especially since I'm a fan of the bow. I don't think you'll have to read "Deadfall" to enjoy this book but I think it'll help. It's just as good and worth reading first.

Biblically there are no Christians again but there are some Biblical references which seemed a bit out-of-place, almost forced so that it could be considered a "Christian" novel. There were some good moral messages though... the importance of being a good, compassionate and caring father, one willing to give his life for the ones he loves. Good triumphing over evil. Brains over brawn. Common-sense over higher-education.

I did have one issue with the writing which is minor but annoyed me just the same. When a story is in an action scene I do not like it slowed-down by thought dialogue such as regrets of not being a good parent. Is that really necessary during a gun battle? There's plenty of other times when the subject can be brought up so leave it for the lulls. "Deadlock" did this way too much in my opinion.

If you haven't read either Deadfall or Deadlock I highly suggest ordering them both. I think you'll be happy you did.

Heart-pumping thriller  Feb 27, 2010
Robert Liparulo is a master of heart-stopping action, intricate plot and engaging story. First, if you haven't read Deadfall, go back and start with it. It will help you grasp the face-off in Deadlock between journalist John Hutchinson and military industrialist Brendan Page. The mark of a great novelist is when the sequel is as good -- or in this case, better -- as the original. My hat is off to Liparulo. One can only wonder why Hollywood isn't following up with contracts in hand for the screen rights to his books.
Fictional Fun = Reality Nightmare  Dec 10, 2009
Blending military expertise with genuine human compassion Robert Liparulo delivers a one, two punch that results in a knock out with Deadlock, the second book featuring John "Hutch" Hutchinson and his nemesis, Brenan Page.

Denver newspaper columnist John Hutchinson matches wits with ex-soldier turned military-techno-trainer, Brendan Page. Page's company, Outis, utilizes online war games to target players who have an eye for strategy and good kill scores. These gamers are then recruited to take part in real world missions, where one shot one kill is just that and there is no reset button.

I would liken Outis to a futuristic version of Blackwater, all the soldier of fortune bravado of present day with the added technology of tomorrow. The most significant being the "mask" worn by the soldier, it's sole purpose is to manipulate the environment, altering any element that might cause the soldier to hesitate. For example, the soldier is more likely to shoot an armed individual VS an unarmed, a soldier VS a civilian, a male VS a female, an adult VS a child, therefore, regardless of the reality, the mask "creates an ideal target" for the soldier.

Laura and her son Dillon (from book 1, Deadfall) are in town visiting Hutch from Canada. Page suddenly decides to call Hutch's bluff - agreeing to meet with him. Momentarily torn between spending time with his children and his out of town guests or meeting with the elusive, murderous Page, Hutch opts for the latter and is off to Page's corporate Seattle.

When Hutch's son, Logan is kidnapped, his obsession is thrown into high gear, blinding him to the danger and propelling him forward through seemingly insurmountable odds.

In Deadlock, we are given a glimpse, (that will hopefully remain fictional), into the chilling possibilities and consequences that go hand in hand with advancing technology, especially when money, status and greed replace integrity, morality and accountability. The futuristic element is just beyond the setting sun of tomorrow, but not so much so that it becomes unforeseeable. The situations that play out are frighteningly similar to those we have seen on the news in recent months. The combination of fantasy and reality, creative imagination and good research have yielded an interesting, provocative novel, that moves quickly and keeps the reader involved.

**This is the 2nd book of the series, Deadfall is the title of the first. Because the author does a good job of quickly describing the characters and their relations it isn't necessary to have read Deadfall before reading Deadlock. However, if you want to have a clearer picture and especially if you plan to stay with the series, I recommend reading both.
Incredible...  Sep 28, 2009
I thought this book was wonderful. Unfortunately I didn't read the first book in this series but that didn't seem to matter as far as following along went. After seeing how incredible this book was & reading many references to what happened in the first book it sure makes me want to go back & read it though. It sounds like I missed out on an awesome start to this series. I became pretty attached to these characters & it was near impossible to put the book down for the night. This book was action-packed & I sure hope there will be more. It was a fast & easy read. Not much mystery but still a lot of suspense. I'd highly recommend this book.
4 1/2 stars. Fast-paced, exciting, read  Sep 7, 2009
Deadlock is the follow-up to Deadfall (A John Hutchinson Novel). Although it isn't necessary to have read Deadfall, it does explain relationships between the characters. I recommend reading it to understand the whole backstory.

This book picks up a year after Deadfall. John Hutchinson, "Hutch", vowed to change his family situation and get shared custody of his children. He has it now, but doesn't share enough quality time since he is obsessed with Brenden Page, the father of the killer of his friends and Laura Fuller's husband, Tom. When Laura and her son, Dillon, visit Hutch, his obsession takes a fateful turn.

I was engrossed in this book almost from page one. It was very quick-paced and easy to read. Deadfall took me a week to read because it dragged a little and had a few ideas that were a little out there for me, but this one only took me a day to finish. The soldier training ideas were all very believable and possible. Brenden Page was a good villain that was easy to dislike.

This is an excellent, well-written book. Occasionally, the metaphors/similes or descriptions are a little over-the-top, but not too distracting.

This book includes bloody death scenes, but not overly descriptive. It does not include any foul language.
