Publishers Description
When Chloe Adams' fiance dumps her---the night before their wedding---two girlfriends from her book group decide a little adventure is in order for the three of them. After all, why let a perfectly good honeymoon cruise go to waste? Adventure? Chloe Adams? No way! Chloe's lived in one town her whole life. The closest she's ever gotten to actual adventures is reading about them. But her girlfriends won't take no for an answer. One good adventure calls for another as Chloe's friends try to coax her out of her post-dumping funk, and soon she finds herself living out the adventures in her book club's latest selections. Hiking. Sailing. River rafting. Traveling to new places and eating exotic food. The play-it-safe Chloe begins to blossom into a new, daring Chloe. A Chloe who just might be ready to take on her biggest adventure of all ... Laura Jensen Walker has a knack for quirky heroines and real-life humor. In Chloe, she's created another memorable character who will live on in readers' hearts.

You get what you pay for.  May 21, 2010
Predictable & dull. By the midpoint I was skipping more pages than I was reading which is never a good sign. The only saving grace is that it was a free download. It reminded me of why I usually don't scoop up the free Kindle books & stick with books that I want to read. Thanks for trying, just not my cup of tea.
The Little Girl Grows Up  May 12, 2010
This book should have been more interesting because it has great components: dramatic opening, strong supporting cast, and unusual events. The main character is a Bible thumping/quoting devoted born again Christian who is also a conflict avoidant and phobia riddled woman in her twenties. The book was okay, but I would have been angry if the book hadn't been free.

There is no way this book would be inspirational for women. The main character does little to nothing to portray a strong woman, instead plays into the role of a "good Christian woman" who makes sacrifices so other people can walk all over her. There are two supporting characters that are more colorful and interesting than the main character, the aunt and the roommate. The roommate is painted as irresponsible, selfish, and a user who takes advantage of the main character. The aunt is painted as a martyr who has learned to be self sufficient and outspoken as a result of her life experiences.

The plot involving the book club is excellent. I enjoyed the adventures and activities the book club experienced.
Potential is there, but it falls flat quickly  May 11, 2010
There are times when a book has all the ingredients for a really great read and then it just falls flat. That is exactly the case with "Daring Chloe" by Laura Jensen Walker.

Chloe is dumped via text message during the middle of the night before her wedding. As the novel unfolds, we find out that she and her fiancé didn't know each other that long and friends and family had concerns about their getting married. We also learn how much Chloe has submitted to her intended's desires. Chloe has lead a planned, safe, organized life until this happens and her book club friends all unite to prompt her to take some risks and move out of her comfort zone as she moves forward.

This book has everything I normally look for in a fun, light read - the main character is part of a book club and loves to read, the book club is made up of women of different background and ages, the members decide to stretch themselves by living out something in the book selection for the month. How could all of that go wrong? I don't really know, but it sure does. The characters are flat and one-dimensional - I couldn't keep some of them straight and didn't really care. The first half of the book is so plodding that I almost put it down and didn't finish. What saved it was when the action moved to Paris and the trip the Getaway Girls take. Even that felt like a travelogue and a listing of the various sites in the city. Fortunately, I enjoy reading in detail about other locales, so I did enjoy that part but even then it could still have been much better.

With as many good novels as there are out there in the world, I won't be spending my time reading any more of the books in this series. Just not very good.
Would actually give it 3.5 if I could  May 11, 2010
Fun read of adventures of a women's book club and Chloe in particular. Enjoyed the characters that were developed, but the book starts off with Chloe being dumped at the altar and her struggle to get past it. Meanwhile there is a friend of the groom who obviously admires Chloe---he appears several times in the book and then just fizzles into nothingness. I can't help but think he is main character in a sequel that is coming our way. Otherwise, I don't get why his character development was so weak. Except for that, I really enjoyed the book. Quick, fun read.
A Book That Stops at Nothing...And Stays There  Apr 12, 2010
I was looking for something light and fun to read and picked this book randomly and seemed like an intriguing premise and it was a free title for Kindle. The first chapter or so did a good job of drawing me and giving me a main character that was both likeable and relateable. And then the author brought in her main network of friends, who again likeable and relatable. And just when the story should've gotten under way, I felt like it kind of stopped. There seemed like opportunities for things to happen, i.e. roommate drama, a sister who's not so perfect, a boat trip, and yet the author felt like that was enough, like a colorful setting was all that was needed to keep the story going and then we're left with characters sitting around doing nothing but chit chat for the rest of the chapter. Oh and Chloe gets a romance, but apart from the author showing us, she just tells us that there's someone interested in her - apparently showing us a budding relationship would have been way too interesting.

The whole book is a set up to isolated bookwormy Chloe going to Paris for a real adventure, and then I thought, "Well, its more than half over, but something is going to happen...finally." Nope. Just the characters talking about how great Nutella is. Sigh. Maybe it was too much of me to expect something more to happen, but in real life, when you travel, things happen. Maybe the author has never run into those kind of things, I don't know.

Its disappointing - I wanted something light and fun, and I figured this would be a Christian version of a Lauren Weisberger novel, but instead I got something very bland and unmemorable. There's very little depth and very little to ponder once you hit the last page.
