Reviews - What do our customers think?
Exhaustive reference work no student of Daniel should ever be without!  Jan 10, 2009
The title says it all. Howe is definitely a futurist who compiles a thorough argument against preterist views. He appropriately launches his defense from Daniel. This is refreshing because so many authors jump straight to Revelation, circularly interpret the text according to their prior eschatological view and only refer to Daniel when it suits them and their assumptions. (All schools of eschatology can be guilty of this).

The book does provide an excellent commentary on Daniel and there are other excellent books one can obtain for interpretation and commentary, but none so thoroughly and fairly argue for the futurist view. Howe considers all the arguments and provides counter-arguments and in some cases he even gives counters to the counters! (I did say "thorough"!)

He delves into proper biblical exegesis and seems to have a masterful understanding of the ancient biblical languages. Unfortunately, many authors today seem to do poor exegesis and possess a flawed understanding of the biblical languages, therefore Howe's exegesis is very instructive and refreshing.

This book makes no assumptions and each argument is thoroughly backed. In a great many cases, the underlying philosophical assumptions of an argument are analyzed and explained. I found this type of apologetic approach to the book to be very useful and extremely instructive. The book is over 700 pages, but if one reads and considers it thoughtfully, one cannot but help to sharpen their wits as they pick up on Howe's keen ability to see beyond statements and claims and penetrate the underlying philosophical assumptions and flaws in logic that often go unchallenged underneath.

Even if you do not have the time to read 700+ pages of protracted but excellent commentary, this book would well serve any serious student of Daniel as an excellent reference work regardless of the school of eschatology. Buck up and buy it! Heck, the exhaustive bibliography is worth the price of the book as it provides an excellent resource to anyone interested in further study of Daniel and the history of the world related to his prophecies.
