Item Description...
One of America s most trusted parenting experts writes the book Dad . Dad is a step-by-step guide to building a great relationship with your children. A relationship that one day turns into a best friendship. Many fathers spend 18 plus years raising their kids, only to have them leave the house and not look back. These kids call only when they have to, come over for the holidays that they can't get out of. Phone calls are awkward and not that often. That is not how it is suppose to be. You apply the principles in this book and your kids will be coming to you all of your life. They will call because they want to. They will enjoy talking to you, and sharing with you all that is going on in their life. They will look forward to spending time with you. When reading this book, please understand that we all make mistakes especially us fathers. We all have made mistakes and will probably make a lot more in the future. Being a great father isn t about making no mistakes. Being a great father is about learning not to make the same mistake over and over again. Being a great father isn t about our lack of character in a few bad situations. It is our overall character that we demonstrate to our kids throughout each day and throughout our lives. Realize that great fathers are not born; they are developed. Every father has inside him the potential to be a great dad. But like anything in life, it takes understanding how to be great, then a lot of practice to be great, and, finally, choosing to be great. Being a great dad isn t something you just try or even do for 18 years. It has to be something you do for the rest of your life. You have to dedicate yourself to never stop growing and to never stop changing. Always pursuing being the best dad you can be. Whether your kids are 2 or 52, it is never too late to start developing a great relationship with them. I believe if you do everything in this book, one day your kids will be saying, My dad is my hero and my best friend.

A Mom And Dad Journal Family Life From Their Own Points-Of-View  Feb 4, 2008
A pastor and his wife, the parents of four boys, each wrote a book on their family life experiences. Not only do these two books deliver insightful, colorful, and humorous narratives, they detail the same events from two different first-person perspectives--one from Scot Anderson (Dad), and one from Holly Anderson (Mom).

Rip off you say? A cheap way to make two books out of one you say? Try again.

Together, these two books are the neatest things I've seen in a while.

While each book is a good read in and of itself, to fully appreciate the stories you need to read both versions, and you'll want to. Here is an excerpt from chapter(s) six, "Living a Life of No Regrets," where Dad and Mom, respectively, detail their observations about how men and women manage their time:

Scot Anderson (talking to fathers),

"...look at a sample schedule for the week:"

12 hours of watching NCAA tournament

10 hours watching miscellaneous TV (two hours a night)

3 hours at the driving range

4 hours golfing

2 hours washing cars and motorcycle

1.5 hour date with wife

7 minutes reading Bible

20 minutes (exaggerated) of prayer

6 hours at lake

1.5 hours of church (attending three times a month)

Holly Anderson (talking to mothers),

"...look at a sample schedule for the week:"

18 hours watching Grey's Anatomy, Gilmore Girls, the OC, Smallville (The average woman watches 2.5 hours a day)

10 hours talking on telephone (The average woman talks 1.5 hours a day, check your phone records)

3 hours lunch dates with friends

2 hours doing laundry

5 hours complaining about how no one helps out

3.67 hours with kids (20 minutes a night and two hours on weekends)

1.5 hour date with husband

20 minutes (exaggerated) of prayer

6 hours at lake

1.5 hours of church (attending three times a month).3

Beginning to understand? I have found that the best way to read both books is to finish a chapter in Dad and then immediately read the same chapter in Mom. However, I often find myself reading only a page of Dad's account and thinking, "What might Mom have to say about that?" So I'll put down Dad, pick up Mom and laugh at the contrast until I am glowered at by Starbucks-drinking New Englanders.

When my wife and I decided were wanted to have a baby, I started looking for parenting books to read. When I came across this book I thought I would check it out. It was awesome! I laughed so hard at times I woke my wife up. But, I learned so much about being a dad. I can't wait for my son or daughter to be born, so I can put everything I learned into practice.
Thank You!!!  Aug 9, 2007
This is a terrific book about everyday situations with our kids. It is easy to understand and very logical. This book was fun to read. I loved the real world examples. I read the whole thing in 2 days... wasn't a chore and learned a great deal in the process. If you want to know what goes on in your children's life, this book offers the tools. After practicing the ideas for two weeks I can proudly say we have less arguing, tantrums and misunderstandings. A big "Thank you" to the author for sharing his experiences.
Compare Books  Jul 10, 2007
If you compare Scot Andersons DAD with his wife Holly Andersons MOM as some reviewers have, you will see the story about the sprinklers does not add up. One book has Scot at the computer and the other has Holly at the computer. Bad writing, bad editing, or bad memory?
give it 6 stars  Jul 10, 2007
My wife and I share an account, my name is not Eva, it's Dereck:

Funniest book ever. Yes i agree with the other reviewers, this book is laugh until milk comes out your nose funny. My favorite story would be little Joshie.

From this book I learned how to go beyond convential fathering, and I learned how to be a great dad. A dad that is building a great relationship with his children. In just the last month I have seen a major difference in my home and in my family.

I learned:
To put relationship first
The importance of me building memories
How to build a trusting relationship
How to talk to my children, really get them to open up to me
How to create an atmosphere in the home that produces great relationships
The importance of loving my wife and how to do so
How to love my children so they feel it and know it

I learned how to be a great father.

I strongly recommend this book to all fathers out there who desire a great relationship with his children.

Ths book is a 6 star book all day!!!!!!!!!!
