Since then, he has written more than 300 books, some under his own name and others using pseudonyms, ranging from picture books to young adult thrillers. His complete works have sold close to 100 million copies. Mr. Cosgrove has been honored by Idaho State Legislators for career achievement and has won the Coors Lumen Award for family values. He is also the winner of multiple Children s Choice Awards. He lives in Austin, TX.
Robin James is a gifted illustrator and a native of the Pacific Northwest. She has loved art and animals all her life and has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil. Reviews - What do our customers think?
Judging a book  Aug 25, 2005
This book is preachy, too simplistic for my four-year-old, and boring. As simple as the story-line is, it still makes no sense--why does the alligator stop stuttering just because he's repeating Creole's words? The characters are simple stereotypes. The moral at the end is a decent enough message, I suppose, but what's the point of this retelling? Worse than the Berenstein Bears!
Good moral lesson; cute art.  Jul 29, 2002
Creole, the Big Scary Swamp Critter, is shunned by all of the other marsh denizens. Only a fellow misfit--a stuttering alligator who's often on the business end of taunts--will even give her the time of day. How can they win the acceptance of their neighbors?

This book is a good and uplifting read for any kid who's ever felt like a freak. And Robin James's slightly saccharine but highly intricate art is another plus.

Read Aloud for Optimal Pleasure  Apr 18, 2002
"On a foggy, foggy morning, in the land of the swamp, from a battered speckled egg, Creole was born." Serendipity books are made to share. The words are on the left page, pictures on the right. You can fold the book back (I know- People for the Ethical Treatment of Books will object.) and your audience can view the picture as you read. Of course, you will prefer some over others but they're all worth buying! Each has a moral at the end. Creole meets up with a stuttering baby alligator and makes a friend.
At 24 this is still my favorite book!  Jul 8, 2000
I first read this book as a child, and I still love to read it now. I love the morals and this one truely is touching. I feel that ever child that is dealing with being different should read this book and learn the individual differences about us are what makes us special. A Wonderful story!
A true Serendipity book  Jun 26, 2000
Trust the Serendipity books to come up with such a strange creature for such a familiar tale! Creole is an apparent monster, stirring fear and hatred wherever she goes, but when she finds a friend, she begins to hope for a better life. However, things do not exactly go as planned when she tries again to share her good nature with the rest of the forest. Wonderful artwork, and a wonderful way to teach your children that appearance isn't nearly as important as true intentions.
