Reviews - What do our customers think?
Very helpful for reading many Coptic texts  Dec 8, 2008
The meaning which a Coptic writer intends for a particular Greek word is notoriously difficult to determine in many cases. You might find 20 translations in Liddell & Scott's A Greek-English Lexicon, Ninth Edition with a Revised Supplement, but which one could be meant? Very often, especially in monastic literature, the writers use a word in the sense in which it is used in the Coptic New Testament. This concordance of the Greek words in the Coptic NT is the quickest way to find these senses laid out for you. It has saved me a lot of trouble when reading Shenoute, and I expect it to continue to help in the future. Search the net for the best prices, of course.

The concordance entries have headers that contain the Greek word as it is written in Coptic, followed by the Greek word or words for which it is used in the NT. Sometimes it is used only for the equivalent Greek word, but sometimes it is used for more than one Greek word. For example, AKATHARSIA in Coptic is used for AKATHARSIA, AKRASIA, PONHRIA and AKATHARTA in the Greek New Testament. Each Greek word after the first one in the header has a superscript number following it. In the entries that follow, each Coptic use of AKATHARSIA that does not stand for Greek AKATHARSIA has the superscript number for the corresponding Greek word in the header line. This is very handy.
