Register your artisan biography and upload your photo! Sir Robert Anderson was born in Dublin, Ireland on Mat 29, 1841 and was of Scottish descent. His father was an elder in the Irish Presbyterian Church and he was raised in a religious home. Anderson's conversion took place after listening to a sermon delivered by John Hall. Anderson described the event: "[Hall] boldly proclaimed forgiveness of sins, and eternal life as God's gift in grace, unreserved and unconditional, to be received by us as we sat in the pews. His sermon thrilled me, and yet I deemed his doctrine to be unscriptural. So I waylaid him as he left the vestry, and on our homeward walk I tackled him about his heresies ... At last he let go my arm, and, facing me as we stood upon the pavement, he repeated with great solemnity his gospel message and appeal. 'I tell you, ' he said, 'as a minister of Christ, and in His name, that there is life for you here and now if you will accept Him. Will you accept Christ, or will you reject Him?' After a pause - how prolonged I know not - I exclaimed, 'In God's name I will accept Christ.' Not another word passed between us; but after another pause he wrung my hand and left me. And I turned homewards with the peace of God filling my heart." Sir Robert Anderson graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, in 1862 and was called to the Irish Bar in 1863. He later became Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department at Scotland Yard. When he retired in 1901, he was made Knight Commander of the the Order of the Bath. W. H. Smith, on the floor of the House of Commons, said Sir Robert "had discharged his duties with great ability and perfect faithfulness to the public." Sir Robert has been called a "secret service theologian," because in addition to fighting crime in London he wrote several books on Biblical doctrine. He was close to some of the most well-known teachers of his time, including James M. Gray, C. I. Scofield, A. C. Dixon, E. W. Bullinger, and he preached along with J. N. Darby. Sir Robert was a member of the Plymouth Brethren and later with the Open Brethren. Among his many theological accomplishments, Sir Robert defended the authenticity of the book of Daniel at a time when it was being vigorously attacked. He wrote many books, some on political subjects but most teaching doctrine.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Still a great book these 100 years later!  Feb 22, 2008
Sir Robert Anderson (1841-1918) was a trained solicitor and intelligence officer who became Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (Scotland Yard) during the Ripper Scare. He was widely credited with bringing London's notorious crime under control. However, Sir Robert was also a committed Christian.

This fascinating book is the fruit Sir Robert's examination of Daniel's prophecies of the end of the world, focusing in on the future Prince who will attempt to destroy Israel. In it, the author shows the thoroughness and eye for detail that was the reason for his advance to the very pinnacle of British criminal investigation. Overall, I found it to be a fascinating read. You would expect that such an old work would be dry and academic, but the author did such an excellent job that it is still a great book these 100 years later!

So, if you want to read a fascinating book, one that should rightly be considered a Christian classic, then get this book. I highly recommend it!
All scripture is given by inspiration of God.  Jan 17, 2008
I read this book many years ago and found it nothing less than thrilling. It is the work of a top investigator who searched for the facts before coming to a solid conclusion based on the evidence. Having often read the nonsense that is sometimes spouted out by atheists regarding the Bible, it is good to know that there is abundant evidence to support the divine inspiration of scripture. Surely this is a book which any serious Bible student should read. Strongly recommended.
In depth and articulate...arguably too articulate  Oct 28, 2007
A little "wordy". The writer is the type who will impress
with his vocabulary and sentence structure ability...if you
don't choke it up before finishing the book.

Still, great in depth prophecy analysis.
The Coming Prince is a must read  Aug 23, 2007
Imagine having a law-trained scholar from the 1890s who headed Scotland Yard during the era of Jack the Ripper and who was knighted by Queen Victoria unlock for you key-turn by key-turn, the secrets of the mysteries of the end-times prophecies in the Old Testament Book of Daniel. Imagine having his analysis calculate for you to the date, year and day of the month the historic events of when Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, was arrested and crucified. Then know that these calculations are supported by historically documented events based upon the Jewish calendar, as supported by ancient astrological observations and calculations. Imagine all of this taking place and being written down in a book published years before the first shot was fired in World War I. Imagine then again that all of these events were written in the days shortly after Bismarck and not long after Napoleon ravaged Europe. Finally, imagine that this entire effort is intended as a backdrop for the coming "end of days" as told in Daniel and the New Testament Book of Revelation with a startling basis in historical fact. Stop imagining. You can purchase this long-forgotten book fifty years after its Tenth Printing edition.
Recommend to both Jew and Christian  May 12, 2007
The Coming Prince is not a book for the casual Bible reader, it is a must have for serious students of Old Testament prophecy. Sir Robert Anderson gives the most satisfying explanation of Daniel's seventy weeks. He weaves facts, Jewish history, and geography with scriptures to pour light on the meaning of the 9th chapter of Daniel. This book is stunning in it's portrayal of end time events. There is something for both Christian and Jew in this book and I would highly recommend it to both groups.
