Cjhicken Soup for the Soul Teacher Tales  Mar 27, 2010 As a retired teacher I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was both entertaining and informative. After I finished reading the book I loaned to a couple of my retired teacher friends.   Chicken Soup for Teachers  Feb 14, 2010 What a great book! Mostly what I love about the Chicken Soup Books are that you can put them down and pick them up at any time. With kids and windows of time, I love that I can read a quick story here or there. Have a moment while I make the coffee, read a story, waiting in front of the kids school, read a story, the kids watching a movie, read a story. Little blocks of time filled with the written word. There were so many stories in this book that really struck me. My favorites were from the teachers who really go above and beyond to reach out to the kids that society has given up on. The story like Karen Gills, where she talks about her students but more importantly how she thanks her mother for making her a teacher. She feels like she is making a difference in the life of her students and the world. The story by James Edward Phillips who taught his students CPR and was proud to hear how one of his students saved a 3 year old on the beach. How proud he must have been. One of my favorites comes from Quyen Thai who says what I wish more teachers believed: That it is not always about getting the lesson plan right, it is about making a difference. She sees the people she encounters as human beings with their own hopes and dreams. Another favorite was from Dorothy Goff Goulet, who stated that a teachers job is difficult and how sometimes you can forget that day-to-day life is difficult for your students. This was a special lesson she learned from one of her "complicated" students. I love this story! There were so many beautiful stories of people doing one of the most difficult jobs.   Loved it even though I am not a teacher!  Feb 6, 2010 I thought this book was cute and funny, even though I am not a teacher! It reminded me that teachers are people too, as so often students forget just as kids forget that their parents were once young. I love that I can pick this book up anytime and read a short story to cheer me up or make me laugh. The stories are from both new and experienced teachers so you get to see both ends of the spectrum. It also covers good and bad kids, funny and embarrassing moments, and stories of bonding. Not all of the stories are funny at first, but they do make you smile and are inspirational. One of my favorite stories is called "The White Car," and is about a teacher who accidentally hit a 9 year old boy who later ended up in her high school classroom! (They joked and bonded that year.) I think this book would make an especially great gift for any teacher, but then again I enjoyed it as a mom!
