Overview
Referring to the documents of Vatican II, the modern catechism, the writings of the early fathers, as well as Scripture, Clark lays out how Christians are to find meaning for their lives through partaking of Christ's body and blood. Each chapter's theme is gently applied in a closing meditation.

Publishers Description
Catholics and the Eucharist offers a biblical explanation of the Eucharist that will expand readers' understanding of the sacrament and help them participate more fully in the Mass. In popular theological language, Stephen B. Clark explains the Vatican Council's teaching that the liturgy is the summit of the church's activity and the fount of its power. Using Scripture, the documents of Vatican II, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the writings of the Fathers and scholarship through the ages, the author provides a masterful and readable introduction to the meaning of the Eucharist. Each chapter closes with an inspirational meditation to help readers appropriate its message.

Exellent Study Guide  Mar 8, 2007
Anyone who is looking for information about a Eucharist based faith. I found the book full of information on why certain form is followed. Each step is covered fully, with scriptual explanations.

Astonishing and insightful reading  Apr 2, 2002
In my opinion Clark's book is worth four years of college theology but without the lectures and exams. It is a simple yet stunning work. Any Catholic interested in his or her faith will surely be inspired by Clark's book. It motivates the reader to reach out for greater understanding of worship and liturgy. Most importantly, Clark provides a powerful Scriptural basis for the Eucharist, as the core of Catholic liturgy.

It is especially helpful that his style is lucid and thought provoking. Clark very adroitly breaks down complex concepts into meaningful, understandable parts and beautifully reassembles the theological thought to move the reader along to the next level. In particular, Clark's examination and explanation of ancient Judaic temple rites and the roles played by different types of sacrifice was facinating.

The book transcends the topic of the Euchrist and boldly challenges the reader to consider the full meaning of the liturgy of the Mass and all its implications. This is a "must read" for anyone serious about their faith. You will not be disappointed.

A Great Revelation On Why We Practise Adoration of the Host  Feb 22, 2001
I have been picking up the Holy Bible recently and began to understand how God speaks to us through the scriptures. My confession is that being a Catholic for more than 22 years, I go to masses but do not really understand the sacrificial ritual of the Eucharist until recently when I start picking up supplementary literatures to help me unravel the complex scriptures. This book is one of these that I hold with great esteem. Right from the Preface, the author quoted from the Book of Haggai which pointed out why the Israelites when back in the Promised Land planted a great deal but harvested little. They tried serving their own material needs and took a lesser priority to the temple of God. God's presence is found in the tabernacle, hence the temple of God. To me, this is a truth manifested from the Scriptures. It also brings out why God loves us so much that He choose to keep his presence with us till the end of time. A Great book and I sincerely recommend this book not only to Catholics, but all Christians, too.

Highly Recommended  Feb 13, 2001
I found this book engaging, inspiring, and informative. The book's theology flows out of Holy Scripture, the Divine Lirturgy (both East and West) and Christian tradition. The result is that one learns not only about Holy Communion but about God Himself and His intention for His children (a little Christian history too). A confession: I'm not even Catholic; I'm Greek Orthodox. But I have found Mr. Clark's previous books to be thought provoking, so I gave this book - even thought it's addressed to Catholics - a try and was not disappointed. Great scholarship and a thoughtful presentation! I strongly recommend this book to any Chrisitan - even Catholics.
