Item Description...
Linda, our heroine, returns to her old neighborhood with mixed haunting emotional feelings of her childhood. She flashes back to the times of being cared for by a loving and God-fearing woman who devoted her life to making the world a better place. Linda is also on a mission to fulfill a promise she made on the deathbed of Mrs. Carrie O. That promise was to make peace with her birth mother Vivian, and forgive her for the pain she inflicted upon her in childhood. Linda's story is one of triumph over adversity and hope over despair. What A Woman, Indeed  Jan 8, 2008
They say that revenge is a dish best served cold; in the same vein, forgiveness can often be a tough pill to swallow.

Just ask Linda: returning to her home roots after spending years away, she is quickly reminded of the many bittersweet memories formed during her upbringing. Chief among them: her time with Carrie Oswell, a matronly neighbor single-handedly responsible for the health and welfare of Linda and countless others blessed by her nurturing influence.

Following a tragic accident that takes her sister's life, young Linda soon finds herself adopted by Carrie as her mother, Vivian, suddenly takes a turn for the worse. Blaming Linda for the horrific event, Vivian devolves into a drinking, disheveled shell of her former self, leaving her in no position to care for Linda. Carrie and Linda soon form an intractable bond, and over time Linda comes to appreciate Carrie for the true spiritual jewel that she is. Spouting biblical verses on cue, doling out helpful advice, and providing much-needed comfort are just a few of the attributes that come naturally to Carrie, making her the go-to source of strength in times of need.

Upon her return, Linda struggles to find the closure she needs to reconcile her past with the impending path of her future. Recounting all the instances of heartbreak, rejection, and disappointment that she suffered at the hands of her mother, she wills herself to remember the spiritual foundation given to her by Carrie, putting her applied wisdom to use for the greatest challenge of her life: coming face-to-face with Vivian to finally heal the wounds that she inflicted. Linda knows it won't be an easy task, but her faith and fondness for Carrie help her weather the ultimate test.

Carrie O And Me is a touching tribute to all the people in our lives who serve as our anchors and shelters from the storm. A common refrain often repeated by Carrie's friends and family in remembrance of her is "What a woman God made," a fitting description of a truly inspiring soul. Yates's tale pulls at the heartstrings, often touching off episodes of reminiscence in the reader for which s/he may not be prepared.

An enjoyable read with a graceful, soothing touch, Carrie O And Me is a strong testament to the true power of forgiveness.
"This is a spiritually inspiring read that will warm your heart."  Dec 21, 2006
"Carrie O And Me, What A Woman God Made is a powerful read that is meaningful and uplifting."

"Linda Smith returns to her hometown and relives dear memories of the wonderful couple who raised her after the tragic death of her sister Ann. Linda's mother became an alcoholic after the accident. Her life began to unravel and she was no longer a responsible parent."

"Mack and Carrie Oswell lived in the neighborhood and agreed to take Linda into their home and raise her as their own child. After living with the Oswells', Linda became exposed to a different lifestyle. Mack and Carrie O were spiritual people who gave her a great foundation and balance in her life."

"Carrie O was a special woman who offered wise words and unconditional love to all she encountered. She was a God fearing woman who made an impact on all the lives she touched."

"Having great people like the Oswells' in Linda's life enabled her to grow up and become an intelligent, strong Christian woman."

"Through out the novel Linda overcomes adversities and arrives at a place of tranquility and forgiveness to her mom for abandoning her."

"This is a spiritually inspiring read that will warm your heart."

Hope  Oct 14, 2006
In Jacksonville, Florida, Linda, her sister Ann and their loving and caring mother Vivian all live together.

Vivian is a very good mother and provider. With the difficult loss of a child, Vivian completely goes off the deep end, drinking, entertaining all times of the night and begins to embarrass and mistreat Linda.

The Oswells, Miss. Carrie O and Mr. Mack attempt to provide help and comfort with Vivian and Linda, they always try to help people in anyway that they can. The couple welcomes Linda into their home. Miss Carrie O teaches Linda things pertinent to her life, prayer (always on your knees), how to cook and participation in church activities. They also partake in nightly discussions about any and everything.
Miss Carrie never tried to turn Linda away from her mother. In fact they were always encouraging her to visit her while they continued to be there for Vivian as well.

This is an EXCELLENT book about compassion, wisdom and faith. I am highly recommending CARRIE O AND ME: WHAT A WOMAN GOD MADE.

Enjoyed It!!  Oct 11, 2006
On many occasions while reading this book I kept forgetting it is rated as fiction. The characters seemed so life-like and the situations encountered were so real. In her writing, Ms. Yates skillfully gave numerous examples of God's grace and mercy. Carrie O was truly a woman of God. This book will take you thru several emotions. You will find yourself rejoicing right along with the characters in the book (or even more so). I truly enjoyed reading this book and I WILL read it again!
Inspiration for The Weary  Oct 10, 2003
This spiritual tale opens with Linda Smith returning to the city of Jacksonville, Fl to sell the home of the late Carrie Oswell, whom she met under the most unfortunate of circumstances. Seventeen year old Linda and her younger sister Ann were playing on the street, when Ann wearing skates, rolled into the path of an oncoming vehicle and ultimately did not survive her injuries. Ann's life wasn't the only thing to be lost that day...her mother was to lose her zeal and Linda was to lose a mother, both of their lives would forever change. Over the following days, weeks, and months, Linda was then faced with her mother's bitterness, rejection, and worse of all alcoholism!

If not for Mack and Carrie Oswell, whom were God fearing people loved by all, life for Linda would have been totally hopeless, but there they were welcoming her with loving arms and eventually Linda ended up in their home enveloped by the love and attention she and every child deserves. Over the next few years Linda was to develop an endearing relationship with the Oswells and Mrs. Carrie's warm heart and generous nature had such an impact on Linda that it would follow her for the rest of her days.

For me, this story told through the eyes of the teenaged Linda, whom I feel could have had a stronger voice, brought back memories of my own high school years, where us `worldly' teens would shield the few church girls from the sins around us to keep them most chaste. I looked upon these memories fondly. I am sure at some point every reader will stumble upon an issue that he or she can relate too. Regardless of some typographically errors, 'Carrie O and Me' is definitely a wholesome story that I would like to see in the hands of every adolescent. Francine's heartfelt sentiments come to life through the memory of Linda Smith as she reminisces about the years spent in the home and care of Mrs. Carrie. Delicately yet completely Francine conveys the message of, by following the path that God has laid out, one shall reap untold reward.
