| I first read BHG about 8 months ago. At the time, I was going through a very dry period spiritually, and upon first completing the book, it was honestly a discouragement. I knew where I was, and knew where I wanted to be, but had no idea how to get there. In the time since, the Lord has done a supernatural work in my life that has taken me from a dry, weak, shell of a Christian to a bold and daring minister of truth. The Bravehearted Gospel was a major catalyst to this transformation, and I have kept it nearby the entire time, and have read it cover to cover at least three times since then. This book is a call to action that leaves the reader with a choice. There is no middle ground, either the reader must follow the bravehearted path, or they must reject it outright. This is a very energizing and insightful book about the lukewarm state of Christianity today, especially as practiced in the U.S., and the need for modern-day Christians to reclaim the strong, masculine, vibrant faith of the early Christians. While I agreed with one commentator that the text is somewhat redundant and the book could probably have been written in less pages, it is an easy read especially as each chapter is only around 5-7 pages.
The basic premise of the book is captured well on page 236 where Ludy summarizes what he means by a bravehearted life. He says:
"The Bravehearted Gospel is not just another idea; it's historic Christianity....
It is a life that seeks not the applause of men, but rather, seeks the fame and renown of our King Jesus and is willing to stand alone, contra mundum, if need be, to remain loyal to His truth and to His person.
It is a life that is already dead.... It is a life wholly spent on the things our great God deems most important.
It is a life fashioned after the heart of God. It esteems what God esteems, hates what God hates, embraces what God embraces, and fights that which God fights.... And it is a life that gives no quarter to anything that proves hostile to the agenda of Christ both in the life of the individual and in the life of the church.
It is a life shaped after Scripture, testing and approving everything by the canon-tested Word of God.
It is a life fashioned and prepared for one single objective: to bring glory to the most high God."
I bought the book after attending a Christian worldview seminar at which Eric Ludy spoke. If you ever have the chance to hear him give a presentation, DO NOT MISS IT! He is a very passionate, inspiring, and challenging speaker. For more information about the book and Eric Ludy, go to [...].

Without a doubt this is a message that the modern church needs to hear, but the book is so full of repetition (including passages copied verbatim) that it could easily have been written in less than 100 pages.

I had never heard of Eric Ludy nor this book when I saw the title on a blog that I was reading, called my local bookstore, and they ordered THE BRAVEHEARTED GOSPEL for me. I read the book in one day! It was easy reading with short chapters divided into 7 themes that Ludy writes on to challenge the reader to abandon superficial, worldly compromise for a radical faith in Jesus Christ.
I must admit that my few moments with the book made me fearful that I was reading another emergent book with a cool title. However, Ludy is no friend to the emergent movement. While he does commend the emergents for their desire to break away from dead, dry, institutional faith, Ludy challenges emergents (and evangelicals) to not abandon the true faith as found in the Bible nor abandon the reality that Jesus is the only way to God. Ludy believes that God's heart is to raise up a remnant of faithful disciples of Christ who do not love this world (James 4:4) nor follow this world (1 John 2:15-17) but who love Jesus and want to exalt Him completely in their lives (Philippians 1:20-21).
Overall this is a great book. I enjoyed the call to discipleship and the call to be a radical follower of Jesus Christ. How we need to hear the truth that Jesus wants all of us and not just some of us (Luke 14:25-35). Jesus has called us to be bravehearted and to not be wimps but bold for Him (Acts 4:29-31). | | | Write your own review about Bravehearted Gospel
