Publishers Description
Heralded as the most authoritative and up-to-date atlas of the Bible now available, Biblica: The Bible Atlas with an enclosed CD-ROM goes beyond the more traditional books of its kind. It places the biblical narrative and its peoples in their historical, cultural, social, and geographic contexts, and it makes clear the complex history and cultures of the Bible lands as they relate to the regionA's modern social and political landscape. But perhaps most important of all, Biblica: The Bible Atlas incorporates the most recent archaeological findings and research, combining scholarly data with engaging discussion of the BibleA's immortal stories. In summary, this unusual volume offers readers fresher insights and a deeper appreciation of the biblical narrative than any other reference source of its kind. Biblica: The Bible Atlas is also a visually stunning guide to the Bible and biblical lands, featuring more than 650 full-color paintings, drawings, etchings, and photographs plus 125 full-color maps of the region. Following the extensive and beautifully illustrated main text are 14 pages of biblical reference tables, an extensive bibliography, a glossary of biblical terms, a large selection of biblical quotations from the Old and New Testaments, a gazetteer of biblical place names, and an extensive index. Here is a beautiful and informative book that will make a treasured addition to the family bookshelf. It will also be a much-sought-after volume in reference libraries everywhere.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
An impressive book! Gorgeous. Quality. Over 10lbs!  May 6, 2008
This book is the same as the book, "Biblica: The Bible Atlas: The Story of the Greatest Story Ever Told" (ISBN 1740480090). The difference is that "The Story of the Greatest Story" is in a slipcase and comes with a CD-ROM - and is less money!

The print quality is the same. The binding is the same. The CD-ROM / slipcase edition was originally printed for the big warehouse stores.

This atlas's review of geography, war and politics is thorough. I would have liked to see more about what crops people grew, and what trade routes existed with which goods.
Best Bible Atlas  May 4, 2008
I don't see how anyone can rate this book less than 5 stars. Yes, it weighs 10 pounds, but it is filled with great information and beautiful maps and paintings. The text is wonderful, and is pitched to a generally educated audience with some familiarity with the Bible. The book is carefully designed and edited. The contributers are top Bible scholars. I have seldom been so pleased with a book purchase. I got my copy for half price -- it is hard to imagine a better bargain.
    Beautiful Book--Amazing Price  May 4, 2008
I honestly cannot believe they can print this book for the price. In addition to providing an fascinating and detailed account of bible history, it is full of gorgeous illustrations. As a teacher, this book is a gold mine--there is hardly a topic I cover that doesn't have multiple beautiful works of art, full color maps and more.

Biblica: The Bible Atlas: A Social and Historical Journey Through the Lands of the Bible
Wonderful book with many recent historical information, a lot of beautiful pictures and interesting maps. I am very glad that I bought it.
Pretty Bible Story Book  Apr 8, 2008
Biblica is absolutely gorgeous. The photography is excellent, the printing and artwork reproduction are great, and the maps are colorful and well made. Its overall imagery is seductive.

But looks alone can't carry a book, especially one that claims to provide "a better understanding of biblical events and journeys, of the complex history and cultures of the Bible lands, and of the modern political landscape of the region." On these counts, the book is an utter failure. Make no mistake, this book in NOT an atlas. Yes, it contains maps and photos that might be found in an atlas. It also contains a few dozen paragraphs that give superficial interpretations of the facts, figures and locations related to biblical stories. But the majority of this 500 page behemoth is devoted to something else. Biblica is actually a dogmatic narrative of bible stories illustrated with paintings that set the stories in 12th to 19th century Europe.

The "atlas" material scattered throughout Biblica probably amounts to a total of 75 pages. If the publishers would discard the remaining 400+ pages of filler, they might have something that comes close to satisfying the claims that they make on the jacket and in the forward.
