Item Description...
Overview
Tokee as having one of those days, her "wish I'd never been born" kind. How come she had to be cooped up here with old-fashioned Auntee Edna? Torkee was sure that Auntie Edna would be not fun--she didn't even have a TV! Soon, however, Tokee discovers that Auntee Edna has her own ways of having fun, ways from the past that are new to Tokee. In this warm story about kinship and family heritage, author Ethel Footman Smothers takes young readers back to earlier times when homemade teacakes were cut out with canning jars, when toys were created with simple sewing scraps, and when a pile of old buttons could hold wonderful stories. Illustrator Wil Clay's paintings charmingly capture Torkee's changing moods and her growing appreciation for "old-fashioned" Auntee Edna.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Beautifully illustrated, nice story too  Apr 20, 2010
I'm not a reader or buyer of children's books, but this book stopped me in my tracks on a recent visit to the library. I picked it up to skim it and ending up reading it cover to cover. The illustrations are just gorgeous and the characters' faces are expressive. Auntee Edna is one smart lady, too. It's heartwarming how she manages to connect with a niece who's not very happy about being left at her house for the day. Very nice book, in my opinion.
