Item Description...
Tackling near-death experiences and demon possession, NY Times best-selling author Ted Dekker delivers a riveting thriller of sin and salvation.FBI behavioral psychologist Daniel Clark has been made famous by his arguments that religion is one of society's greatest antagonists. What Daniel doesn't know is that his obsessive pursuit of a serial killer known only as "Eve" will end in his own death at Eve's hand. Twenty minutes later Daniel is resuscitated, only to be haunted by those twenty missing minutes of life.

It soon becomes painfully clear that the only way to stop Eve is to recover those missing minutes by dying . . . again. What isn't nearly as clear is just how many times he will have to die to discover the truth, not only about Eve, but about himself. Daniel will have to face haunting realities about demon possession in the modern world--and reevaluate his own prejudice against religion--to stop the killer.

More About Ted Dekker

Ted Dekker Ted Dekker (born October 24, 1962) is a New York Times best-selling author of more than twenty novels. He is best known for stories which could be broadly described as suspense thrillers with major twists and unforgettable characters, though he has also made a name for himself among fantasy fans.

Dekker was born to missionaries who lived among the headhunter tribes of Indonesia. Because his parents’ work often included extended periods of time away from their children, Dekker describes his early life in a culture to which he was a stranger as both fascinating and lonely. It is this unique upbringing that forced him to rely on his own imagination to create a world in which he belonged.

After leaving Indonesia, Dekker graduated from a multi-cultural high school and took up permanent residence in the United States to study Philosophy and Religion. Upon earning his Bachelor’s Degree, he entered the corporate world and proceeded to climb the proverbial ladder. But his personal drive left him restless and, after many successful years, he traded corporate life for wide range of entrepreneurial pursuits that included buying and selling businesses, healthcare services, and marketing. In the early nineties while visiting a friend who had just written a book, Dekker decided to pursue a long held desire to be a novelist. Over the course of two years he wrote two full length novels before starting from scratch and rewriting both. Now fully enamored by the the process and the stories, he realized that storytelling was in his blood and a new obsession to explore truth through story gripped him anew.

He sold his business, moved his family to the mountains of Western Colorado and began writing full-time on his third novel. Two years and three novels later his first novel was published. Dekker’s novels have sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Two of his novels, Thr3e and House, have been made into movies with more in production. Dekker resides in Austin, Texas with his wife Lee Ann and two of their daughters.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Excellent Thriller!  May 3, 2010
"Adam" is an incredible thriller by Ted Dekker! Dekker is my husband's and my favorite author, and "Adam" is definitely one of his best works, in our opinion.

We actually read the book out loud during car trips and while we were fixing dinner and things like that, and we simply couldn't put it down! The story gripped us from the very beginning. There were actually times where we would pull into our destination and sit in the car just so we could finish a chapter.

One of the neatest things about "Adam" is the newspaper articles interspersed throughout the book. It allowed us to see a different side of the story and try to piece together the different elements. We also loved the battle between good and evil which is so evident in almost all of Dekker's works.

I would highly recommend "Adam" to anyone who is looking for a gripping suspense book.
A Good Read =].  Apr 19, 2010
Okay so by now there are a ton of really good reviews that say "GET THIS BOOK!" and I don't too much feel the need to add to that. Despite its shortcomings with that last chapter and the climax being what they were, the book is simply an excellent read and will have you on the edge of your seat to find out what happens next. I read it in one day. I've never read a Dekker book before so I didn't know what to expect with the religion in there.

Apparently there is another edition of the book that comes with an extra chapter that really clears up the whole "wow that climax sucked" feeling you get after you close the book. Search for that if you want to really finish the story! I know I will be!
Dekker at his best  Apr 1, 2010
I have read quite a few Ted Dekker books and I must say this is my absolute favorite.

He writes as if these crimes actually happened and the "magazine" within the book was absolutely ingenius! I actually had to look up the Eve Killer to make sure he wasn't real! It gives this book just that extra push to make it that much more realistic and suspenseful.

It is an absolutely perfect buildup to the end, which is a spectacular ending. I hold endings of books as the most important feature of a book. Adam definitely does not disappoint. I skipped out on dinner once I reached the climax at the end and could not put it down for anything.

The characters take a backseat to the plot and that's okay. The murderer was the star of the show as it should have been. It was a very well written story and the idea that the murderer was perfect only added to it. I would recommend this book to anyone at all. Please do yourself a favor and pick it up!
Gripping from Page 1  Jan 12, 2010
This book was my introduction to Ted Dekker's writings. I had seen his books at Christian bookstores here in Australia but for some reason had not picked them up - big, big mistake! Now, having an extended holiday over the summer months, I had time to do some reading and picked this novel up from the library.

I was gripped from the fist page and almost became a recluse reading it - it was one of those books I could not put down. Suspense, thrills and a good plot are all in place but it also makes some thought-provoking points about the effects of abuse in childhood.

Dekker opens with a story of the kidnapping of two children which occurred some years prior to the main storyline of the book and then interweaves that event (the kidnapping) into the hunt for a serial killer named Eve. The fact that it becomes apparent fairly early on in the book who the serial killer is, does not detract at all from the suspense or from the story.

I liked the way a supposed article about the serial killer was weaved into the main story and Dekker's use of supposedly real photos from that killer's past is another nice touch.

The Christian message is certainly there but is softly done. I believe the book would also make non-Christians think about the impact and influence of evil in the life of a person and the ways in which that evil may gain a foothold. It is this aspect which makes the novel thought-provoking, and issues such as the impact of abuse in childhood and its effects upon the individual when they are grown, should make people think as they enjoy the suspense and thrills.

I do not want to say too much about the plot because that may ruin the book for those who have not read it but the characters are well written, the writing is very tight and the story is full of suspense from the start. The absence of any swearing or blasphemy is a great relief to me, as this often ruins the efforts of other thriller writers for me and the fact that Ted delivers such a superb effort without use of language such as that, shows it can be done.

With this - my first Dekker book - I have become a great fan and have now read Kiss and am onto Skin, with Sinner and Three lined up to follow.

Anyone looking for a novel combining suspense and thrills with a thought-provoking theme should certainly read Adam. It is well worth it!
