Breathtaking...  Jul 27, 2006
After an album like "Silence" Blindside had to come up with something new. They had established themselves as a good rock band, so they had to start defining themselves as a band. They needed to do something different. As a bridge between "Silence" and "The Great Depression" this album is perfect.

From the first line of their first song "Eye of the Storm" I knew I had to brace myself for quite a ride. Poetic honesty has always been Blindside's strong point, and their lyrics were no disappointment in this album.

All fourteen tracks were well thought out and every song has a meaning deeper than a shallow mind will ever comprehend. From "Eye of the Storm" talking about getting closer to God through trials, to "After You're Gone" talking about giving it all to God to "About a Burning Fire" comparing God's love to a passionate fire.

Musically, Blindside displays modesty and beautiful arrangements. Their drummer subtly shows up most drummers out there all through the album. Their guitarist could've been better, but he chose to compliment everyone else. The bassist does the same as the guitarist. The vocals in this album are amzing. As always, Lindskog doesn't cease to amaze; singing, screaming, shrieking, and whining all through the album at just the right times.

No doubt in my mind if you enjoy something refreshing with deep spiritual lyrics Blindside is a must-listen.
"It's not easy but I'm biting my tongue off."  Apr 28, 2006
Blindside's follow up to the solid Silence is just as pleasantly hard rocking, and more consistent throughout. They haven't changed their sound much, still pumping out very enjoyable Christian-themed hard punk, although they do take a few more chances on About a Burning Fire.

The record starts off with a few vintage Blindside tracks, "Eye of the Storm", "Follow You Down", and the single "All of Us". They all contain great hard guitars and enjoyable, catchy refrains. The next song, "Shekina", is a step in a different direction, featuring a beautiful female vocal, nice music, and some lyrics in the band's native Swedish.

The next couple songs are the most forgettable. "Hooray, It's L.A." features Billy Corgan on the guitar, but you wouldn't know if they didn't tell you. "Swallow" has a slightly infectious chorus, but these songs are merely solid, not really good. The next really good track on the album is "After You're Gone", which is a little too short. It's a great song with really haunting lyrics, and it really gets you caught up in its power.

The next couple tracks are a bit of a departure. "Where the Sun Never Dies" starts out fairly standard but ends with an unusual (for this band) techno interlude, and "Roads" is an out-of-nowhere, slow-moving song with a Western flair that's kind of hard to describe. The final song is the title track, which goes back to what Blindside does best, hard guitar riffs accompanied by towering, throat-shredding vocals. It's a good way to end an album for an album that does what they do about as good as anyone.
needs more lighter fluid  Mar 27, 2006
Blindside certainly had a hard act to follow after such an amzing release as "Silence," and naturally, any group would have a hard time maintaining that kind of energy and consistency. "Burning Fire" was actually the first Blindside album I cam across, and although it got my attention, I can see how longtime fans would be a disappointed in places. Luckily, even the band's mediocre works still have some gripping highlights, and "About a Burning Fire" is no exception.

The album starts off promisingly with "Eye of the Storm" and "Follow you down;" nice tracks, but still a preview of more memorable things to come. "All of Us" has a unique balance to it, with subtle, restrained verses; it's a powerful song without being hyperactive, and, as usual, has a special symmetry to it's lyrics that make it stand out from a lot of other rock songs. The real pinnacle, however, is "Shekina," which is different from anything I have ever heard, not just from Blindside- it's beautiful, and extremely original, with string movements, traditional Swedish herd-calling, and beautiful lyrics in both English and Swedish.
Things seem to fall flat from there, though,as the next three tracks have a filler-quality to them, but the pace gradually picks back up from there. "Across Waters Again" and "After you're gone" are agreeable songs and evocative of Silence's mellower fare, while "Where the sun never dies" gives a much needed energy-boost towards the end, fading off into a nifty electronic beat, which works better here than on any other song they've used this on. The title track wraps things up with a roaring (but controlled) throwback to "A Thought Crushed My Mind," and goes out with a bang.

"About a Burning Fire" is kind of a mixed bag of the stellar and the forgettable, with a few marked lulls, but as usual, the songs still enjoy a subtle but potent infusion of the band's spirituality: always true to their background, but never critical or exclusive. Existing fans will appreciate the highlights on this cd, but new listeners are probably better off testing the waters with a more consistent album like "Silence."
About A Burning Fire  Mar 15, 2006
Sound: This CD is by a band called Blindside that is from Stockholm, Sweden. This CD rules because of the unique blend of hard rock and vocals that scream passion right into your face. One of the songs, "Shekina", is partially written in their native tongue, Swedish and has a Swedish singer as well. This is just one of the many unique sounds on this album.

Lyrics: My overall impression of the lyrics on this CD were that they were skillfully written and, after a few listens, are esay to sing along to. The singer, Christian Lindskog, blends screaming with heart-felt vocals that tie into the emotion of the lyrics. Blindside's lyrics are Christian and their lyrics back that up.

Impression: My overall impression of this band was that it was one of the best bands I have ever heard. Their lyrics and music are unique and enjoyable to listen to. The best songs are: "Eye Of The Storm," "Follow You Down," "All Of Us," "Across Waters Again," "After You're Gone" and "About A Burning Fire."
Good but not their best  Jan 14, 2006
Great cd. Blindside is my favorite group, and this is a really good cd. I only give cd's 5 stars if they completely deserve it. Silence is my favorite Blindside cd, and I of course gave that 5 stars. The only other Blindside cd that I gave a 5 was The Great Depression and I'm not even quite sure if that deserved it. Here is my ratings for the songs:

1. Eye of the Storm- One of the best songs on the cd for sure. Great chorus. 9/10

2. Follow You Down- Not quite as good. The guitars are a little heavier in this one. It's still a good song though. 8/10

3. All of Us- AMAZING. A lot of people don't like this song cause it's "too light" for Blindside. It's a really good song though with great vocals. 9/10

4. Shekina- One of Blindside's worst slow songs. I don't blame the guest vocalist though like most people do. It's not horrible though. I just don't like it. 2/10

5. Hooray it's L.A.- The first time I heard this song I got really scared. Why is Blindside swearing? They actually aren't swearing, they're are just using the word to tell about how bad the world is. About the song, it's pretty good. 7.5/10

6. Swallow- This song is strange and a little bit annoying. Kind of punk sounding for Blindside. 7/10

7. Die Buying- GOOD. One of the better songs on the cd. I like the guitars in this song. 8/10

8. Across Waters Again- One of the heavier songs on the album. I don't like the long part at the end that just goes on for about a minute though. 8/10

9. After You're Gone- Very emotional. One of the best songs on the cd in my opinion. 8.5/10

10. Where the Sun Never Dies- Okay. 7.5/10

11. Roads- I like the way this ends right before About a Burning Fire starts. This is a slow song, but it's pretty good for one. 7.5/10

12. About a Burning Fire- ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER!!! This song has a lot of screaming, but it gets very emotional at the end. The first few times I heard it I just sat their awestruck. By the way, this is the first song I've ever given more than a ten. 11/10
(I don't like giving things above a ten, and this song didn't deserve that too much above one, but it did deserve more than a 10)

Anyway, I do recommend this album. Here is the order you should get the Blindside cd's in (not the order from best to worst).

(if you like screaming) A Thought Crushed My Mind
(if you don't like screaming) About a Burning Fire
The Great Depression
(Whichever one you did not get from above)
ST (don't get this one unless you really like Blindside)
