Item Description...
Mary Kathleen Davis finds the framed motto in the back of a dusty antique shop, and it haunts her. After 26 years as the trophy wife of a powerful man, Mary is a widow with no sense of identity. She finds herself wondering "what might have been," and torments herself with guilt over her treatment of an old flame. She has the notion that if she can return to Paris with her increasingly distant daughter, perhaps shell be able to reconcile with the past and find a new future. The trip to Paris will change everything for these two women, in ways neither could imagine.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Disappointed  Jan 27, 2007
Based on everyone else's positive ratings of this book, I ordered A Garden in Paris hoping it would live up to those reviews. Sadly, it didn't. I found the character of Elizabeth extremely annoying- too petty, judgemental, and confrontational with her mother. The author relied too much on "telling" the story instead of "showing"- through more dialogue and action. Despite the good premise, I couldn't make myself keep reading. I'd recommend Kissing Adrien or Chateau of Echoes by Siri Mitchell if you want some wonderful, French fiction.
A trip to Paris  Aug 10, 2006
I thoroughly enjoyed her story of Mary, her personal struggles, her search for who she really is. A delicate but honest look at a mother's feelings. I loved her determined search for her passions and identity and also enjoyed her descriptions of the streets and sights of Paris. I want to travel there more than ever!
I am a fan of the author because of her historical fiction.  Jul 1, 2006
Because of all of Whitson's historical fiction series, I became a fan of her writing. She is one of the better writers of our time for historical fiction that grabs the reader's attention, emotions, and mind. Although I'm not thrilled with romance novels, especially placed in modern times, I decided to read this book and its sequel because she's a good author. Indeed, it is a good read, but I still like her historical fiction better. That's more my individual taste rather than a not-so-gushing review of this book series. Truly, her writing is still excellent, and she packs good research into the creation of the text. These are quite a bit more religious than her other books.
Wonderful  Mar 31, 2006
I loved this book. I thought it was very well-written and disagree that it was hard to be pulled through. I rarely can't put a book down, but the last third of the book caused me to play hookey from work and life to just finish it!

I thought she captured the struggle so many women have in finding value after a marriage has ended, and the conflict so many of my friends and I are having with our adult daughters who don't "see" us. Her book gave me hope that there are always new starts--good ones. It was one of the better reads I've had in some time.
Lovely book  Feb 24, 2006
I really liked this book, and look forward to the sequel. I love all things french and romantic. I am at the age where I want to believe it is never too late to achieve your dream, and this book reinforced that! It is a good book to pick you up out of your doldrums.
