Item Description...
For most potential buyers, Franklin Manor was just a run-down old house, half-buried in Adirondack snow. But to professor Butch Regent, Franklin Manor was a beacon of hope. He would buy it, renovate it, and turn it into an artists retreat. Franklin Manor would make his gray and unsatisfactory life bright and meaningful, but not without a life-and-death struggle. Nuns, tuberculosis patients, and other former residents make a Christmas return from the dead to save the house and the old man from destruction. It's a Christmas story of despair versus hope.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
To the manor Borne  Oct 23, 2008
In small town America no man is an island unto himself, not even if he wants to be. Such may be the premise of A Franklin Manor Christmas. Ostensibly this easy to read novel is a re-affirmation of all the old adages about Christmas cheer and goodwill but there is more to it than this. Mr Dickens had his Scrooge rehabilitated by seasonal goodwill with no small para-normal assistance. Mr Wilcott's protagonist embarks on a similar journey. There are many spirits, all from the past, but the present and the future are no less to the fore. It is a tale of optimism almost quelled, of lofty ambitions yet to be realised and of community. It is a tale of a man who's own spirit ebbs and is in danger of drifting away in a pituresque but elemantally harsh Adirondack winter. Above all it is a good story and can be enjoyed by readers of all stripes. I look forward to the next installment.
A real enjoyable read  Oct 20, 2008
This book was truly an enjoyable read. I could easily picture the snow falling and cuddling up close to the fire when the power goes out. Having spent most of my life in the Adirondacks I also know that the story could easliy have been true. When Adirondackers are in need somehow their friends and neighbors come through. Do we all have a secret bell?

This well make an excellent Christmas present!
wonderful connections  Oct 15, 2008
To discover the well defined characters of this delightful story who are drawn together by the history of this house of invitational charm and of its many reincarnations makes for a Christmas season read for all. Erin Watson, Johnson City, Texas
Charmed!  Oct 13, 2008
I grew up in a warm, happy family that included many people who were not blood-related, but who were every bit as important to us as those who were. One of the messages in this delightful book is that the word "family" can be defined in many ways. Once Professor Regent begins to lose his skepticism and opens his heart and home to people he barely knows, his life is changed and enriched in ways he never dreamed possible. The readers of this charming book can be similarly blessed if they read with equally open hearts. I eagerly look forward to reading the next volume and meeting more of Oliver's Mountain's endearing residents.
Franklin Manor Christmas  Oct 13, 2008
This book hits the spot. It has a great idea -- showing the history and mood of Saranac Lake during its heyday as world curing center for tuberculosis. With the current possible resurgence of tb,, one could learn a lot from it. Altho it has a Christmassy tone with ghosts of other times, it's factual, interesting and well written. Slanted for grown-ups, it could nevertheless be quite suitable for reading aloud to young children.
