Item Description...
A treasury of prayers drawn from North America From morning's breaking till night's footfall, Mighty Sun makes its curtain call. God bless its rising, God bless its setting, ever beautiful, over North America. This prayer book is both "Contemporary" and "North American." It is contemporary because it tries to use current and inclusive language whenever possible, in ways that ref lect the usage of people today. It is North American because it uses the places, persons and history of North America as a basis for prayer and meditation. Part I: North American Liturgy of the Hours Part II: North American Seasonal Prayers Part III: Thirty North American Pilgrimages Part IV: North American Litanies

Reviews - What do our customers think?
For personal use, retreats, and faith-sharing groups  Apr 30, 2008
Fr. Fitzgerald is a retired priest and author whose works include A Contemporary Celtic Prayer Book and Seven Secrets of the Celtic Spirit. The spirituality of his current book centers on places, persons, and history of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The book is divided into four parts. Two short sections deal with seasonal prayers based on the liturgical calendar and litanies celebrating saints, martyrs, and missionaries of North America. The book opens with a major section featuring a North American version of the Liturgy of the Hours. The material, a mix of original poetry and reflections with quotations from Scripture and other sources, offers morning, midday, and night prayers for each day of the week. The format can be extended with longer periods of silence and meditation or shortened to fit almost any schedule.

Of particular note are the daily lunchtime prayers and the seven midday "scripture beatitudes," relating Mathew's gospel to the modern world. Blessed are the merciful for they shall be shown mercy (Mt. 5:7) becomes "You're blessed when you care. At the moment of being `care-full,' you find yourself cared for." The midday sessions each include a North American Island Retreat presented as a guided meditation geared to relaxation. In his introduction the author suggests that any of these may be replaced by a meaningful scene the reader has experienced or one of the 30 North American "pilgrimages" that make up the fourth section of the book. These, of course, may also be used independently. The night sessions contain a meditation on things for which we ask forgiveness, things we will let go, and affirmations to take to our dreams.

With its rich content and inviting format, Fr. Fitzgerald's latest book is imminently suitable for personal use, retreats, and faith sharing groups.
