Bro. Schroeder's Book is Enormous Help in Understanding the Bible  Jan 8, 2007
Every God-fearing person desires to know the answers to two questions: How do I get saved? And what will God have me to do? This perfectly complements God's will for Man. His will is that "all men be saved" and "come into the knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim 2:4).

To this end, God has left us a set of written instructions. That set of instructions, of course, is the Holy Bible.

One might ask then, if we have written instructions, how is it that there are so many God-fearing people that still do not know the answers to these two most pressing questions? Could it be because the Bible is difficult to understand? Or that it contradicts itself? Or perhaps is it instead that "man's wisdom" has muddied the waters?

Some would have us believe that believers should be able to speak in tongues, heal the sick, cast out devils or that we should sell all that we have and/or canvas the neighborhood from door to door. After all, these are the things the Bible says believers can and should do and the apostles did indeed do these things. Others don't understand how such things can apply to us today so they offer explanations such as saying these things were wrongly added to scripture or that the scripture must have a `spiritual' interpretation.

The Bible plainly says: "And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." (Mark 16:17-18); "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils..." (Matt 10:8); and "...sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor..." (Mark 10:21). Should the God-fearing man say "I don't see how any of this can actually be meant for us to do today, so it must mean to spiritually heal the sick, spiritually raise the dead and spiritually we shouldn't be `attached' to our riches"?

When God told Noah that He was going to flood the world, did Noah take God to mean He was going to spiritually flood the world? No. He took God's word to mean He was going to literally flood the whole world and so Noah spent 70 years building an ark. When God instructed Ezekiel to eat barley cakes baked with cow's dung (Eze 3:15), did Ezekiel say "I don't understand; this is a crazy idea. God must mean I should spiritually eat barley cakes baked with cow's dung?" No. He understood that God's instructions were literal. If these God-fearing prophets took God's instructions literally and carried them out literally, then why should we treat God's word as spiritual when He says "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils, etc?" After all, the apostles actually did do these things...following God's word literally.

God literally meant these things to be carried out. So are we to be doing these things today? Some say yes, some say no. Why is there such confusion in the churches? Perhaps the reason is because the churches have been asking the wrong question. When we ask `how do these things apply to us today?," we make the assumption that these particular instructions are written to us. But are they written to us?

There are some instructions in the Bible written to specific people--Moses, for example, or Abraham or Noah. Others are written to specific groups--Israel, the Twelve apostles, the Body of Christ. We would not follow God's instructions written to Noah or to Israel. So it is evident that although all of the Bible is written for us, not all of it is written to us.

The question that the God-fearing individual should be asking then is "How do we know which instructions are written to us specifically?"

Brother Mike Schroeder's book "85 Pages in the Bible" provides the answer to this question, explaining how we must read God's word "rightly divided" (2 Tim 2:15), paying attention to whom God wrote instructions and at what time. And when we `rightly divide', we find that there are (roughly) 85 pages in the Bible that are written specifically to us in this present time.

Brother Mike Schroeder's detailed look at these 85 pages explains how and why these particular pages are our instructions and why the commands given to and carried out by the 12 apostles are not written to us today. More importantly, he uses God's own words -full verses rather than references--to demonstrate this truth.

"85 Pages in the Bible" is not a `scholarly' work in the usual sense--deferring to Greek lexicons and `critical scholars'. Instead it rests on God's word only. This does not mean it is an easy read. Schroeder's book is meticulous and challenging, containing a wealth of knowledge that will continue to yield new insight on every read. Schroeder's book will also demonstrate that it is the `wisdom of men' that confuses; God's Word `rejoices the heart' and `enlightens the eyes.' (Psalm 19:8)
