Item Description...
Overview
The New Testament letter of 1 Peter is widely recognized for the clarity with which it presents the Christian message. In the first of two major sections defining this commentary, Joel Green capitalizes on this clarity with its paragraph-by-paragraph analysis of the letter. With the second section, Green begins to work with the theology of Peter's letter in ways that go beyond the typical modern commentary enabling readers to gain a more complete understanding of the implications of 1 Peter for the Christian life. Green's 1 Peter brings the message of 1 Peter into conversation with Christian theologians - ancient and contemporary - so that the challenge of 1 Peter for Christian faithfulness can be heard more clearly.

Publishers Description
Even though the letter of 1??Peter has sometimes been overshadowed by Paul's many New Testament letters, it is nonetheless distinctive for the clarity with which it presents the Christian message. In this volume Joel Green offers a clear paragraph-by-paragraph analysis of 1??Peter and, even more, unpacks the letter??'s theology in ways that go beyond the typical modern commentary.

Following Green's paragraph-by-paragraph commentary is an extended discussion of the "theological horizons" of 1 Peter. Throughout his study Green brings the message of 1 Peter into conversation with Christian theologians ? ancient and contemporary ? so that the challenge of this letter for Christian faithfulness can be heard more clearly today.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
leaves one wondering  Dec 22, 2008
This was my first exposure to the new "two horizons" series of commentaries. I eagerly looked forward to reading and using Green's commantary on 1 Peter,
since I think Green is great on Luke. What I discovered was a mixed bag, and am not sure if the problem is more the series aim and format rather than any shortcoming on Green's part. I thought the section on the Theology
of 1 Peter was well done, but find myself asking if one would not be better served by purchasing one of the series put out by Oxford on the theology of books of the New Testament, or even some of the better New Testament theologies which examine the theology of particular writers of the New Testament, like Paul, Peter, John, etc. Green's commentary section on 1 Peter was well done, although he seems to be immersing himself in the patristics lately. I felt he was too swayed by some
of the history of interpretation rather than the text itself. All in all, I would not recommend this commentary. I feel that the definitive commentary
on 1 Peter has yet to be written, but there are better commentaries out there like Davids and Marshall.

Excellent Commentary  Feb 8, 2008
I am currently preaching through 1 Peter and have about 5 commentaries that I am using. I have found the scholarship of this particular one to be unparalleled - just thoroughly researched and well done.
